Description: Cardiac radiology is underrepresented during the four years of radiology training. With the availability of more advanced scanners in more practices and the excellent cardiac detail that can be seen on noncardiac gated CT scans of the chest, general radiologists will need to refresh their knowledge base. This cardiac imaging book fills this role in an excellent fashion.
Purpose: The goal is to provide a review of nearly all of the major cardiac conditions in an accessible format. These worthy objectives have been completely met.
Audience: The intended audience is radiology residents and general diagnostic radiology practitioners who have an interest in cardiac disease. These physicians are interested in learning more about the imaging appearances of a spectrum of cardiac diseases on CT and MRI. The authors have extensive experience in field of cardiac imaging.
Features: This book has excellent pictorial essays and case collections. It is more detailed than the case review books for board exam preparation. The excellent layout and color coordination with bullet-point features are helpful. Highlights include the easy-to-use differential diagnosis and key points and the emphasis in some cases on how to approach the image and what not to miss in similar cases. The book succeeds in breaking down a complex subject into multiple, easy-to-understand concepts.
Assessment: I can recommend this book as part of the rotation curriculum in a radiology residency program. It definitely has a role in preparation for the radiology exam and board review.
