The stars in this series are three cats, Merlot, Chablis, and Syrah and their "human" Jillian Hart. Jillian makes quilts for cats but also has time to get wrapped up in a few mysteries. In this story, she helps her friend Deputy Candace Carson track down a missing milk cow, but that leads to finding fifty, yes 50, stray cats and yet another corpse, the professor. As if she didn't have her hands full, her stepdaughter Kara, who never really accepted Jillian marrying her father and has not grieved her father's death, shows up in Mercy for a visit and get wrapped up in the mystery just like Jillian. While all the humans are running all over trying to figure out who killed the professor, in the end it will be a cat who has all the information. I have come to love the characters in these stories. Mercy is a small town where everyone knows everyone's business, much like the small town I grew up in. When you wanted to know what was happening you went to a small hole-in-wall cafe. In these stories you go to a coffee shop, Belle's Beans. These stories are so easy to identify with, especially if you are a cat lover, but without the murders, I hope. **One note of caution, this is a book you will what to read in one sitting, the pages just keep turning and turning, so allow enough time or you may be up all night reading.

I absolutely loved it! I was just as good as the first book of the series, if not better. Of course, I found it funny that most of my real life interests are found in this book - Cats, Technology, etc... All that aside, I thought that the characters are well played out, and all have their own well thought out personalities. I felt like I have just made some new friends to hang out with, albeit fictional ones. :)

If you are a cat lover who enjoys cozy mysteries this book is just for you. In the second installment of the Cats in Trouble series, Jillian Hart finds another murder on her hands. The story begins with Jilliam helping her friend Candice figure out who stole a neighbors milk cow. Instead she is lead to more than 50 stray cats and a dead body. All Jillian wants to do is spend time with her three beloved cats and continue making quilts for cats in the quiet town of Mercy. Instead she is thrown into the middle of another murder investigation. After she stumbles onto the professors body, her stepdaughter Kara shows up at her door wanting to stay with Jillian. Their relationship has always been strained and Jillian struggles to win Kara's acceptance. Tom, Jillian's first love interest since she became a widow, also wins over a little more of Jillian's heart. He is essential in helping Jillian figure out who killed the professor. This is another great book from Leann Sweeney. I did not want to put this book down and now I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series. I can't wait to see what happens to Jillian Hart next!

Jillian Hart works hard at recovering her balance after her husband's death, and her three Hurricane Katrina rescue cats are a huge part of that recovery. After a couple of years living the small-town life, she is still learning about her quirky and temperamental friends, who add spice to every conversation. Once again, Leann Sweeney finds a way to tie Jillian's love of cats with the solution to a murder, and along the way reminds us that the world is seldom black or white. Was the victim a good guy or a bad guy? The more we learn, the less we know how to answer. Jillian's natural curiosity is whetted even more when shelter pal Shawn presses her into fostering some of the strays that were let loose from the victim's farm. In the midst of all the turmoil surrounding the murder, Jillian must cope with the re-entry of her stepdaughter into her life. Will Kara ever learn to accept her stepmother? Will evidence-obsessed deputy Candace ever get a date with the sexy paramedic? And who had a motive to kill? Leann Sweeney keeps us guessing all the way to the end.

Jillian Hart is a cat lover, so when she sees more then 50 cats penned in a dirty cat run, mewing and seeming sickly and hungry, she is more than angry.  The Professor, who was caring for the cats, never got to hear her rant because he was poisoned with a viscous acting poison.  Who wanted him dead and how are those cats coming to be cared for properly now? Jillian's own three cats are helpful to her in her investigation, especially Chablis, who has adopted one of the Professor's cats and her new litter.  Kara, Jillian's step daughter and Deputy Candace Carson can't seem to decide if they're going to be friends or enemies in this investigation. This mystery is definitely very cat centered.  The relationships between the characters also add a great deal to the interest in the mystery.  This is the second in this series, and I'll be reading more for sure.

Great addition to the Cats in Trouble series. Very fun, fast-paced mystery about an experiment gone wrong, in some uncanny way. The characters were consistent with the first book, allowing me to develop greater relationships with them. At many moments, the rapidity of the plot robbed momentum from the story. More emphasis on the characters subsistence and interrelations would have solidified the story for me. Despite it being mystery, it is a cute book to read for a quick companion.

If you enjoyed Sophie Kelly¿s Magical Cats Mystery Series, you¿ll also enjoy Leanne Sweeney¿s Cats in Trouble Series. There are currently three books. the Heroine is an early forties recently widowed cat lover. Having rescued her ¿babies¿ from Hurricane Katrina shelters. She is kind-hearted and of course a natural sleuth. Ms Sweeney¿s detail into the cats personalities as well as her knowledge of specific breeds only adds in drawing you in to the story. Can¿t wait for number four.
