Cathy's Candles: Rekindle an old craft

Overview

The candle-making craft dates back to early America and was created mainly as a necessity for light. Today we enjoy watching the flickering light from our candle and are relaxed by the soothing aroma that fills the room. My desire to create candles began years ago when we had our cabin Up North. Our neighbor raised bees and encouraged me to use his beeswax for candle-making. After melting pieces of the beehive in a pot of water, I was amazed to find a thick layer of golden-colored wax floating on the top. The air filled with a honey-scented aroma. A new hobby was born. First, I needed to figure out what to use for candle-making molds. So I decided to search for anything to recycle or reuse as molds. Cathy's Candles has 28 candle projects. Each candle-making project includes easy instructions and suggestions for molds. Cathy's Candles teaches you to create candles by reusing & recycling items. Through this book, I hope to inspire people to explore the joys and rewards of candle-making and encourage exploring candle-making.

About the Author

Hello! My name is Catherine Basten, author and illustrator for three children's books, titled Tiny Wings, Come and walk with me, and my newest children's book titled Animal Tales and Trivia.

In 2004, I wrote two books, the first book is about virtues, titled Strive to Love, Anticipate with Hope, Believe in Faith, and the second book is about candle-making, titled Cathy's Candles. Strive to Love is a journey about remembering the importance virtues play in our daily lives. I defined each virtue through poetry and a story. After each chapter, I hope you find yourself eagerly waiting to read each poem and enjoy the stories on how I experienced each virtue. Through Cathy's Candles, I hope to inspire people to explore the joys and rewards of candle-making and encourage exploring candle-making.

I published four of my books on Amazon.com in 2011 but discontinued all my books in 2014. In 2021, I decided to reintroduce my books titled: Tiny Wings and Come and walk with me and Strive to Love, Anticipate with Hope, Believe in Faith, and Cathy's Candles, adding Animal Tales and Trivia. This time I choose to self-publish all three children's books with Barnes & Noble.com. I updated a few illustrations, redesigned two book covers, changed the format book size to meet a more affordable printing size, and kept the story theme intact with all four of my previous books.

All life has a purpose. Finding a purpose in life and then acting upon, provides a sense of direction and importance. Each simple lesson in life provides us with a lifetime of knowledge and courage to move forward with our passions.
