This is the published version of an annual symposium held at George Washington University Medical College. The Symposium on the Cell Cycle was held in May 1993. It is the 13th in a series of GWUMC Symposia. The purpose is to present a wide range of current information about the cell cycle. Studies and understanding of the cell cycle and how it is regulated have advanced rapidly in the past several years. Advances in knowledge in this important field are beginning to contribute significant information to our understanding of several human diseases, including cancer. The book would be useful for individuals conducting cell cycle research as well as other senior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students who wish to learn more about this important area. The book is edited by one of the faculty members at GWUMC and contains contributions from more than 100 scientists, many of them leaders in the field. The book has a large number of adequate illustrations; nonetheless, it has the appearance of an inexpensive volume despite its rather high price of $115. The paper quality and print styles are not impressive. Because of the wide range of topics directly about the cell cycle and related important topics, it is a book that should be on the shelves of any life sciences/biomedical library. It has many up-to-date references and a good deal of useful information. Many researchers will find this a useful book to consult for current information about the field.
