Overview

Chaos in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law Series #6) by Jana DeLeon

The sixth book in the New York Times bestselling Ghost-in-Law series.

Jadyn St. James hopes that the two-week quiet period in Mudbug means things in the small bayou town were back to normal...whatever that is. But when a fisherman finds a sunken shrimp boat, and the boat captain is missing, Jadyn wonders if the damage to the boat was caused by a storm, or if something far more nefarious happened.

Colt Bertrand has been fighting his attraction to the sexy game warden since he first laid eyes on her. Once more, their jobs have forced them together, but when a stalker sets his sights on Jadyn, Colt's emotions launch into overdrive.

Can he protect the bayou beauty and also protect his heart?

About the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jana DeLeon was raised in southwest Louisiana among the bayous and gators. Her hometown is Carlyss, but you probably won't find it on a map. Her family owned a camp located on a bayou just off the Gulf of Mexico that you could only get there by boat. The most important feature was the rope hammock hanging in the shade on a huge deck that stretched out over the water where Jana spent many hours reading books.

Jana and her brother spent thousands of hours combing the bayous in a flat-bottom aluminum boat, studying the natural habitat of many birds, nutria and alligators. She would like you to know that no animals were injured during these "studies," but they kept makers of peroxide in business.

Jana has never stumbled across a mystery or a ghost like her heroines, but she's still hopeful.

She now resides in Dallas, Texas, with the most spoiled Sheltie in the world.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 1st 3 books in the Mudbug series. Unfortunately, the 4th, 5th, & 6th books have dropped in quality with each subsequent book. The editing is sloppy. They have both grammatical errors as well as some minor plot errors. My main objection, though, is that this 2nd group of 3 books could, and should, have been one, slightly longer, book. Instead of one tightly-plotted, well-paced mystery tinged with humor and romance, we have 3 so-so books chock-full of filler. Stretching this storyline into 3 books REALLY affected the quality of the writing. And NOT, in a good way! The stretching of the storyline has caused the story to lose focus. This, in turn, has caused the quality of the mystery to drop. Books 4 & 5 touch on the mystery, but are full of random odd threads that don't feel cohesive or relevant. In book 6, the mystery is supposed to come to it's conclusion. But, the build-up has been so sloppy and haphazard, it's hard to maintain interest. The ongoing potential romance between Jayden and Colt has also been stretched to breaking point. The endless "dare I" debate has become tiresome. Instead of sympathetic and interesting, Jayden is now sounding whiny and immature. Other characters we've come to care about also take a hit in books 4-6. In book 5, instead of independent and intelligent, Maryse is coming across as spoiled and selfish. Helena, one of my favorite creations, suffers, too. Her character is overused, or misused, or something in books 4-6. In the 1st 3 books, Helena's antics and the other characters' reactions to them have charm and appeal. You feel sympathy for Helena even though she's a pain in the backside. The humor feels organic to the stories. In books 4-6, her antics and the subsequent reactions to them often feel forced. They are used as filler in order to stretch the series out, and they lose their charm and appeal. Helena feels more like a caricature than a character.

Love both the Mudbug and Sinful, Louisiana series.

I don't want it to end! Her style reminds me of a marriage between Janet Evanovich's crime/comedy and paranormal romance novels. It's been a funvride. I think she needs a series for Taylor, set in New Orleans.

Love this series and the humor of Jana DeLeon. She creates a fantastic world in which these characters live in the bayou. All that and the bad things that keep happening to such a small community. But the citizens of Mudbug don't give up and Colt and Jaydyn are caught up in the middle of it all this time. Great storyline and the characters are such fun while avoiding the danger that surrounds them. Can't wait for the next story in the series. Great reads and highly recommend.

Welcome back to Mudbug, with more mystery and ghostly antics from my favorite ghost, Helena. Yup, there she blows, just like the mountain with all her humorous fall out. Jayden, the game warden, and Colt the sheriff, have their hands full when a wreaked fishing boat turns up in the swamp after a storm. Follow the mystery as Helena adds her unique form of help to the case, and laugh along as she stirs things up. This latest installment of the Mudbug ghost-in-law series does not disappoint. Read and enjoy soon.

Another wonderful book focusing on Jadyn and Colt, and this time things finally heat up.  When a sunken boat is found without anyone around, the people of the area go into search mode to find the captain in case he survived the wreck.  At the same time, a new character is introduced and I think we are going to love her.  New Orleans private detective is given the job of finding a husband who disappeared or died 30 years ago.  Not expecting much but willing to try, Taylor traces a possibility to Mudbug where the two search may overlap. And yes, she can see Helena! Excellent plotting and as always great characters.  Love this series.
