Overview

Murderous mascots, well-meaning linguists, and flatulent maidens, oh my! Welcome to Characters, an irreverent compilation of fourteen shockingly shameless short stories. There's a little something for everyone between these pages, from the dogmatic dissections in "PBR" to the tongue-in-cheek, "A Case of the Wednesdays," and the charmingly absurd, "What's Eating You?" This collection was revised and remastered by the author to reflect their proper gender identity, while also breathing new life into old stories that were destined for more. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll look at bath tubs in an entirely different light, then forget everything you read a week later because...well, that's life. Literature is a cruel, strange mistress-don't be afraid to follow her down this queer, little rabbit hole.

About the Author

Coffee over tea, unless it’s bedtime; biking over driving, unless it’s a road trip; and vegan overall, unless it’s a weird nightmare, where animal products are being forced upon them by a villainous ne’er-do-weller. M Moratto is a queer author, songwriter, and designer, with a crippling Scooby-Doo addiction, who doesn’t fit into traditional binaries. In 2014, they started Woka Woka, a blog with delusions of grandeur about being a publishing company, and printed their first two books, The Struggle is Real: Is there Life After College? and Word Vomit: At Least I Made it to the Bathroom. Their first novel, Midnight Graffiti, is a dystopian, mystery, adventure story with David Bowie undertones.
In March of 2018, M released their first album, The White Elephants Are Dead (And We Killed Them)—a punk rock throwback to the music they wrote and played in high school—under the moniker of Seitan’s Mistress. Their second album, Laid To Rest, featured post-White Elephants music with an electronic spin, and was released in 2018.
M lives with their spouse in Denver, CO.
