Chasing Secrets (Elite Guardians Series #4) by Lynette Eason

Elite Guardians bodyguard Haley Callaghan may be in South Carolina, but when a photo leads investigators in West Ireland to open a twenty-five-year-old cold case, her life is suddenly in danger. Haley knows how to take care of herself; after all, she's made a career out of taking care of others. But after an uncomfortably close call, Detective Steven Rothwell takes it upon himself to stay with her--and the young client she has taken under her wing. A protector at heart, he's not about to let Haley fight this battle alone.

In a sweeping plot that takes them into long-buried memories--and the depths of the heart--Haley and Steven will have to solve the mystery of Haley's past while dodging bullets, bombs, and bad guys who just won't quit.

I'm a huge fan of Lynette Eason's books. She never disappoints her readers. Chasing Secrets is no exception. I couldn't read this book fast enough, but at the same time, I didn't want it to end. The Elite Guardians Series has been thoroughly enjoyable. Each book in the series takes readers on a thrilling ride. The characters are amazingly woven together, the suspense keeps you guessing, the storylines have an inspirational touch of faith, and the romance is sweet. I don't know how Lynette continues to come up with new and imaginative plots rather than being predictable, but she does it expertly. This whole series is not to be missed. You could read Chasing Secrets as a stand alone, but why would you? Hats off to another gem from Lynette Eason.

Another great read by Lynette Eason. Sorry to see this series end, but I know there are more great books coming from this author. You will not be disappointed with this book. Faith and family woven into the story.

Haley has vague memories of her past, but her mother discounted her nightmares as just dreams and Haley has moved on from her past. Now her past is threatening to kill her and Haley is struggling to stay one step head of the killer and keep those she loves safe. Steven moved home to be near his deathly ill father. When he meets Haley he feels an instant connection that has nothing to do with her beauty or position as a body guard. He joins the race to find out her secrets in time to save her. I've enjoyed all of Ms. Eason's books, but I think this one was my favorite. The book begins with a dramatic start and doesn't let up the entire book. It brings all of the other characters from previous books into the plot, but could definitely be read as a stand alone. I would recommend reading the others first though. You won't be disappointed. The author has a way with words that bring out the suspense and drama of the moment. She's also good at the romance part. The chemistry was great with the two characters and fit well with the story. Loved this book and can't wait to get her next one. I received a copy of this book from Revell Reads. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Intensity. Suspense. Thrilling Romance. Lynette Eason's final Elite Guardians novel has it all. When I open a novel by Lynette Eason I take a deep breath, knowing it may be a while before I take another one, and Chasing Secrets definitely stretched my lung capacity! Eason immediately plunges the reader into the emotion and danger of this story and doesn't let up until the final page is turned. Each time I endeavored to stop at the end of a chapter, I found it impossible to set it aside. Filled with characters I either liked or suspected (sometimes at the same time!) as well as unrelenting action and a decades-old mystery, Chasing Secrets kept me up until the wee hours. I'm usually pretty good at sniffing out the culprit but Eason surprised me once again. A phenomenal finale to an outstanding series, I heartily recommend it as well as the previous (standalone but connected) novels. Chasing Secrets is a great way to wind down your summer reading list! Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a copy of this book from Baker/Revell Publishing. I was not required to write a review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Chasing secrets can be exhausting, but Chasing Secrets by Lynette Eason, Book 4 of the Elite Guardians series is thrilling and exasperatingly good. So good, I wish there was more. Ever since I read the first book, Always Watching, I've been intrigued with Haley Callaghan. She's tough, smart and loyal. Her compassion for the underprivileged and homeless drives her. In this book, we get to understand her on a broader level. Her past, her hurts, and her loves. She is tenacious, strong and o so funny with her Irish brogue. I really loved reading about her. The first reaction doesn’t compare to getting to know her in her very own story! And detective Steven Rothwell backs her up. I also enjoyed the girl comraderie we see with the rest of the group at Elite Guardians. I love seeing repeat characters back. The team spirit has such a strong presence with a great message for fellowship. Speaking of message, the message of forgiveness, not only of others but of self really hits home. Satisfying in its plot and closure for the group, but giving hope for the future. In all, Chasing Secrets hits all the right notes with suspense, romance, characters and a strong message. I will miss the Elite Guardians but will look forward to the author's new series, Blue Justice, coming 2018. Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion.

Chasing Secrets is another great addition to the Elite Guardians series. Filled with lots of action, interesting characters, and compelling backstories, it is a novel that can be picked up and enjoyed even if you haven’t read the other books in the series. Haley and Steven were intriguing characters, especially Haley. I’ve been wondering about her past for some time now and it was very eye opening to find out more about her. The author did a good job of keeping me in suspense about who the villain was. I had my ideas about it, and I was close, but she did surprise me. It was also great to revisit the other characters from the previous novels. This story is fast-paced and a the series is a definite must for fans of suspense. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

WOW, excellent book. This is why Eason is one of my favorite authors in this genre. Expertly written, Eason is a master of plot development, The book is fast-paced, the characters are well developed and realistic. Characters from the previous books in this series are brought in, making it a delight to read. It has a couple of subplots to provide more realism. A good read all around. Now I'm looking forward to her next book in a new series (Oath of Honor from the Blue Justice series).

I was not ready for this series to be over! Eason created an amazing team of women I wish I could be friends with. There was just the right amount of suspense with romance mixed in. I was intrigued to learn more about Haley and her secretive past. Chasing Secrets is the fourth book in the Elite Guardians series. I have read and loved the whole series, but also think you can read this book as a stand alone. The Elite Guardians are a group of women with many different skills and talents. They serve as body guards, and protect each other along the way. They are good at what they do, so good that sometimes they become targets themselves. Haley has had the feeling she is being followed for a while now. Not knowing who is behind it is driving her crazy. But it seems that no matter what she does, her enemy is one step ahead of her. When Haley learns more about her past, the suspect list grows to include people as far away as Ireland. Can someone want her dead because of a family she doesn't even know? Or could it be that she made a new and deadly enemy all on her own? Steven has a job to do, and sometimes it involves protecting someone who doesn't want protection. Can Haley see beyond the circumstances and capture a love that just might last? I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense. I enjoyed getting to know Haley better and learning about what made her who she is. I felt the romance progressed nicely and didn't feel forced. The danger around every corner kept me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I loved seeing Haley's caring side and felt her love for the teenagers she helps. I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishers. I was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

A chilling cold case, a long lost family, the start of a swoony romance, and bad guys behind every page - this story is one wild ride! Haley's story is finally told, and I have to you, it's staggering! I really want to say more, but I don't want to give anything away, so you'll just have to read the book. *winks and grins* I have always loved the long lost family trope, and this story is no different. While Haley's story really thrilled me, Steven's spiritual story touched my heart. Through Steven's heartbreaking tragedy and some wonderfully veiled references, Lynette Eason shows readers how forgiveness can lead to a new heart. I liked that Haley and Steven's romance was slow because otherwise it would have felt too fast for me. By the end of the overall story, they were just starting to date, and an epilogue gave me the Happily Ever After that I love so much. Four Stars - An excellent conclusion to an exciting series! Chasing Secrets is the fourth and final book in Lynette Eason's Elite Guardians Series, and I think readers will be very pleased! Chasing Secrets is its own independent story, and very few references are made to the previous books, so readers will not be confused if they consume the stories out of order. I received a copy of Chasing Secrets by Lynette Eason from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group. All opinions expressed are my own.

"Chasing Secrets" by author Lynette Eason is part of her Elite Guardians series. Haley Callaghan is a bodyguard with the Elite Guardians.  Haley finds herself in danger when she is tied to a cold case when a picture leads to her. But Detective Steven Rothwell has decided that he is going to keep her safe. What happened to Haley so long ago that her life is now in danger? This book is the kind that keeps you so interested that you cannot put it down until you finish it. I really enjoyed every page. I give this book a 5/5. I was given this book by Revell Publishing Company and all opinions are mine.

Chasing Secrets is an exciting suspense! Haley and Steven are complex characters, and their story is brimming with intrigue. The drama and danger unfold quickly, and the cleverly crafted plot kept me guessing until the end. With its thrilling twists and turns, Chasing Secrets is my favorite of the Elite Guardians, a series I recommend for suspense readers who enjoy strong characters and unique story elements. ** “I just have to focus on the fact that God is perfect and sovereign in every way. And that in the end, he will serve justice to those who deserve it. It’s my job just to believe that. And trust it.” ** Lynette Eason wraps up her Elite Guardian series about a group of female bodyguards with “Chasing Secrets,” which takes on the story of the mysterious Elite member Haley Callaghan. Haley has a heart of gold and always jumps to help those in need, especially troubled teens. When she gets pulled into the lives of 16-year-old Zeke Hampton and his sickly brother Micah, her life is forever changed. Add to that an abrupt introduction to her past, much of which she doesn’t remember, learning about her connection to the powerful and lucrative Burke family in Ireland, and Haley’s life is suddenly thrown into a tailspin. And on top of everything else, she finds herself a target in a very dangerous game, one in which she doesn’t even know who the players are. Detective Steven Rothwell has returned home to South Carolina to be near his dad who is sick with cancer. When his series of cases begins to intersect with Haley’s situations, he is quickly drawn into her world, becoming intrigued by and attracted to her. “Chasing Secrets” is a novel full of twists and turns, leaving you to guess who is after Haley. But it is also much more than just a romantic thriller. Haley herself reminds us to always be a haven of hope to others, and helps us think about the true definition of family. This story shows us the importance of forgiveness and not letting hate take root in our lives and to find contentment, peace and acceptance instead; we can’t change the past, but we can use the past to help others in the present; God, through his infinite grace and mercy, offers perfect justice; and the possibility of but difficulty in overcoming betrayal. A huge theme throughout “Chasing Secrets” is having a new heart — both literally and figuratively. Eason knows how to add just enough romance to her thrilling tales, and she did it again with “Chasing Secrets.” She is an expert at writing amazing characters who draw you in. Although this story delves more deeply into Haley’s story, readers will recognize many other characters from the prior novels, including Haley’s fellow Elite team members. My only “complaint”? It’s the final novel of the series. Five stars out of five. Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, provided this complimentary copy for my honest, unbiased review.

Lynette Eason's, Chasing Secrets, was published by Revell. In exchange for my honest opinion, I was given a free copy of the book. It is the fourth book in her series Elite Guardians. Do you love adventure, mystery, and twists? Then this book is for you. From the beginning chapter to the end you think you know what is gonna happen then something surprises you. I love books that capture my attention like this I love reading. For me fiction books, can oftentimes be unsure territory as they can be a little to grotesque and some very sexual, with foul language. So for me, I loved how Lynette Eason has written this book, she keeps it clean and still leaves you never wanting to put down this book. I would recommend this book to the reader who loves a mystery plot line, spy/undercover books, and even those who like a little twist to romance. Even though this is the fourth book in the series, you didn't have to have read the previous ones to understand what was going on. I hadn't read anything by Eason before and after completing this book have added her to my authors to look for, I also went back and purchased the beginning of this series.

Make sure you have the required amount of time to read this book . . . because once you start, you won’t be putting it down until you’ve finished. Lynette Eason, in Book 4 of The Elite Guardians series, captures the readers interest from page one, and just when you think you’re going to get a breather from the romance, suspense, and crackling tension, she takes it to a whole other level. Haley Callaghan has carved a career out of keeping people safe, and she is very good at her job. So it’s rather disconcerting to find herself on the receiving end of her services. But when danger crosses the water from County Mayo, Ireland, she quickly realizes that she’s in over her head. For Detective Steven Rothwell, returning home to handle some family business has reopened old wounds, and added a few new ones. While investigating several murders which seem to be linked, his path crosses Haley’s. Curiosity leads to definite interest, especially when Steven discovers that Haley is at the center of his investigation. A cursory background check on the elite guardian reveals more questions than answers, and Steven does what any Detective worth his badge would do . . . he investigates. Little does he know that they are both unwitting pawns in a game that is far larger, and with far more at stake, than either of them realize. And while Detective Rothwell is busy putting out fires on the street, he is helpless to do anything about the one burning in his heart. 5 stars for non-stop action!

Chasing Secrets Elite Guardians #4 By Lynette Eason Haley Callaghan's early life in Ireland wasn't easy but she has no idea just what she lost years ago and the truth is about to come out. And someone is determined to keep her from learning the truth that has been hidden for over 25 years. Living in South Carolina, Haley has no idea that her past is about to find her and place her and those around her in the crosshairs of danger. And her job with Elite Guardians places her in enough danger as it is and Haley has just taken on a case that has made her an enemy that has a way of escaping justice. With more than one target on her back, Haley has caught the attention of Detective Steven Rothwell is determined to help her stay safe. Now Haley just has to survive long enough to discover who wants her dead and rescue those who've been put in danger because she cares. With Steven determined to not lose another person under his protection and the rest of the Elite Guardians backing her up, Haley has a fighting chance to see tomorrow. And Haley has a whole reason to see tomorrow - one she never expected to have. This is the concluding book in the Elite Guardians series and fans of the series should not be disappointed though it would have been interesting to learn the back story on some of the later additions to the group. Haley's story is interesting and the various potential suspects and the overlapping of personal and professional just adds another layer to the suspense. I can honestly say I was left guessing up to the big reveal. For readers who haven't previously read any or all of the books in this series don't worry you won't get lost as each book focuses on a different character or characters. Each story builds on the previous one much like one's own life - time passes and new acquaintances enter while others leave. The old and new in your life don't have to meet in order to enjoy (or not) spending time with you. So take the time to get to know Haley as she uncovers secrets from her past.

Chasing Secrets is the fourth book in the “Elite Guardians” series and one I have been anxiously awaiting since meeting Haley in the very first book! I can very happily say that I was not disappointed in the least! I was drawn in from the first page and hated to put it down - I just had to know what would happen next! As always, Ms. Eason kept me on the edge of my seat from cover to cover and begging the clock for just “a few more minutes” of reading time. I love her writing style, how her words breathe life into characters and their story, making them seem real and like dear friends by the time the final page is turned. I never want her books to end, despite dying to know if I’m right about “whodunit.” I loved the suspense that kept ratcheting higher and higher, causing me to race toward the ending, regardless of my intention to savor this last book in the series. My only “negative” comment is that I found the first few chapters a bit discombobulating, as things happened very quickly and were spread across multiple view points that seemed disconnected. It smoothed out once I caught up and figured out what was going on, but the time line tripped me up a bit, at first. Of course, I loved the characters, too! I so enjoy how every book in this series stays connected with the same characters. The ladies from the Elite Guardians and their significant others continue to step in and out of each others lives, offering friendship and help along the way. So though this is Haley Callaghan’s story (at last!), I was also kept up to date on the couples from the previous books, as well. And I so adored Haley’s character! She is strong and bold, with a killer Irish accent, and a heart that pours into others. I loved her compassion and desire to reach out to the hurting around her, even when her efforts were rebuffed. She isn’t perfect, but her heart shines on these pages. Steven Rothwell is one of those heroes that makes me smile - from his rapport with Quinn (from Moving Target), to his desire to care for Haley, to his strength under pressure. He is determined to watch over Haley and anyone around her, while she focuses on caring for others and tries to figure out her past. I loved his support of her, being her sounding board and anchor in a world whirling out of their control. He is driven and stubborn, struggling to accept events in his life, and holding on to bitterness from his past. I appreciated the conversations between Steven and Haley, some revolving around forgiveness and the pain of the past. I saved several quotes from those pages, needing the reminders they held. Overall, I very much enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense! *My thanks to Revell publishing for my copy of this book! I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

One of the books I was most excited to read on my break from blogging was the newest book from Lynette Eason. I started reading books from Eason a year or two ago, and have enjoyed each story that she tells. When I want to get lost in a story, Eason does not disappoint! Chasing Secrets is the newest installment of the Elite Guardians series by Lynette Eason. It tells the story of Haley Callaghan, one of the personal body guards who works for Elite Guardians. The story starts in Ireland with a look back at a mafia attack on a castle. From there, time fast-forwards and you find yourself transported to present day. Callaghan has spent her life trying to protect others while ignoring the secrets and unknown things from her past. And she finds herself inserted into the lives of troubled youths on the regular - seeking to give them a place to thrive and to help them move from life on the streets to a life filled with meaning. In one of those experiences, Callaghan crosses paths with Detective Steven Rothwell. Rothwell takes it upon himself to work to protect Callaghan after they experience a very close brush with death. Through the twists and turns of this story, you see the caring Callaghan has for the kids placed in her path and how far she's willing to go to help them. You see friendship demonstrated with friends who have your back no matter what and understand when words aren't possible. And you see love blossoming despite difficult circumstances that should seemingly pull people further apart. Redemption Matters In Chasing Secrets, Eason will keep you guessing at what is coming next. This story is filled with intense moments that keep you going...even well past your bedtime. ;) I loved every single moment of this story. Though not every story has a happy ending, I think the greater message Eason hoped to share with her readers through Chasing Secrets is that redemption matters. Though terrible things may happen, it's more about how we move forward from those moments. It's about seeking the good despite the bad. I received a copy of this book from Revell Books. This review is my own, honest opinion.

I always enjoy Lynette Eason's books, and this book is no exception. She usually delivers great intrigue and admirable and lively characters; however, I feel as if this one in the series was a bit formulaic. The suspense aspect was not her best, but for romantic suspense fans you'll get just what you're hoping for—characters that pull through adversity and share a little romance.

Chasing Secrets is thrilling, crisp, action packed, heart pounding, heart palpitating (romance - you just gotta have it don't you?), immeasurable, calculating, gregarious, haunting, chivalrous, interesting and judicious. This is about Haley getting into trouble from a 25 year old cold case - how can that happen? - well I am so glad you asked - no way - I cannot ruin it and tell you - you have to read it for yourself - I will tell you for the fan of the Haley stories - you finally got what you have been waiting for - plus a sweet sweet surprise.. I love love love this.......I received a complimentary copy of this book to read from the Publisher and Netgalley; all the opinions expressed are all honest and my very own.

Deb’s Dozen: Suspense, Murder, Romance, and a Surprise Ending—All Found in Chasing Secrets Chasing Secrets is the last book in Lynette Eason’s Elite Guardians series and I must say I am sorry to see the series end. We’ve loved these characters and their romances and adventures. The suspense has kept us guessing in every book and Chasing Secrets is no exception. Eason has a way of making her characters very real and very human. I especially liked Cupcake! They have secrets and faults and intrigues. Although a Christian book, Lynette does not preach—their faith comes naturally to her characters. She makes me wish they were real so we could become friends. I also liked the pace of the book. Eason starts with a murder and ends with an almost murder. And the off-the-beaten-track trails she leads us on are intriguing and entertaining. Haley Callaghan is a winsome woman of Irish descent who deeply cares for those around her. She’s even started a teen center in a bad section of town. While helping Zeke, a teen who attempted to mug her, she is almost killed in a drive-by shooting. The 911 call brings Detective Steven Rothwell on the scene, and we’re off and running headlong into adventure. You’ll want to read Chasing Secrets and all the other books in the Elite Guardian series. Well done, Lynette, four stars. Lynette Eason has written many series and has won a ton of awards including two Carol Awards, the Selah Award, the Golden Scroll, and the Reader’s Choice Award. She lives in South Carolina and travels on adventures with friends while staying at home—you’ll have to ask her about that! I received an advance reader’s copy from Revell Books, but I was in no way obligated to write a review.

Chasing Secrets is a face-paced, action-packed thrill ride that hits the ground running from the very first page. Haley is a member of a team of female body guards, which is pretty much awesome. She is both strong and vulnerable as she protects her clients and volunteers at a teen center to help troubled kids. When Haley discovers her true identity, the action picks up even more because someone from her past wants her out of the picture for good. And if that isn’t enough excitement for you, when Haley steps up to help a teen with a sick brother and a bullied mother, Haley unwittingly puts herself in another set of cross hairs. Haley is pulled in so many directions as she tries to save everyone, including herself, but she’s not alone. With family, fellow body guards, and members of law enforcement at her back, Haley is a force to be reckoned with. She’ll stop at nothing, even pushing through the pain of a bullet wound, to keep the people she cares for safe. To balance the high-speed action, Lynette Eason does a fantastic job mixing in a sweet, budding romance between Haley and Steven that will leave you both laughing and crying at the end. While Chasing Secrets shows Haley and her team trying to outwit danger, the story is ultimately about trust, forgiveness, and second chances. As Steven spends more time with Haley, who firmly believes in God’s healing forgiveness, he realizes that holding on to hate and having a closed heart hurts everyone, especially himself.

The suspense grabs you at the start and keeps you in its grip to the end. The central character, Haley, is a bodyguard at the Elite Guardians agency and is involved with the Right Turn Teen Center where they seek to help teens who are at risk. Steven is a police detective who has just moved back to Columbia, SC, from Chicago. Haley jumps into action when a teen attempts to mug her and she has more street smarts than he does. As she seeks to help him, she finds herself with a target on her back. But her story seems to have more facets than a diamond and she begins to discover more of her past. In the meantime, there just may be far more at stake than protecting a teen and his family. Steven gets drawn into trying to protect the bodyguard. The action is intense and exciting with more twists and turns than a mountain road. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would love to see more books in the Elite Guardians series. If you have not read the first three, I recommend you get them and read them to get better acquainted with the other ladies in this group of outstanding bodyguards.

CHASING SECRETS is a book that once you pick it up and start reading you can't put it down. I was instantly transported to Ireland, and then to the United States- South Carolina, where the suspense rose. Haley--for some reason--has no memory of her past life. I don't know how. My son remembers stuff that happened when he was three, so I have no idea how her memory was wiped clean--because it seems that a five year old who witnessed the horror she did would remember. She rose against the odds. Despite the odds, she was able to complete her education while homeless, and became a successful adult with a thriving business. She was compassionate and concerned for so many and that made her endearing. Steven is battling demons because his brother was killed by a drunk driver almost twenty years ago and the man is up for parole. He's struggling to forgive his parents for not telling him, but even more so when he finds out his mom has been visiting the killer. He is amazed by Haley's ability to take the hard knocks life throws at her -- shot twice and still determined to protect a teen boy she feels is being abused -- and even though it becomes apparent someone is trying to kill her. Okay, I had absolutely no idea who-dun-it. I had my suspicions, but they didn't pan out, so I was left guessing. This was definitely a great book and I love the faith message Ms. Eason wove in. If you love romantic suspense, you have to read Ms. Eason's CHASING SECRETS. Even though it is third in the series, it easily stands alone. I was given a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
