Description: This is the seventh edition of a well-known book that presents a patterned approach to imaging in chest radiology, largely centered on appearances on chest radiographs.
Purpose: The authors provide a method to develop a pattern-based approach to making a diagnosis of diseases affecting the chest, with a particular focus on radiographic findings.
Audience: While no specific audience is identified, the book is appropriate for radiology trainees and practicing radiologists. The author is well known and this is the seventh edition of a standard used to train radiologists.
Features: The book focuses on disorders of the thorax, largely based on chest x-rays. The pattern-based approach to teach this difficult subject should be lauded. The book covers all portions of the thorax including the osseous thorax, mediastinum, and lung. Imaging of the heart is excluded from the book. Of greatest value in this edition, as with prior editions, is the pattern approach to imaging of the lung parenchyma. This topic is typically not well taught in residency programs and is nicely supplemented by the information in this book. Image quality is adequate given the inherent limitations of print images of chest radiographs.
Assessment: This seventh edition continues the book's quality tradition and remains a staple for radiology residents.
