PreS-Gr 2—This cautionary tale about a chicken who panics, lets his imagination run away with him ("The Sky is falling! The sky is falling!"), and convinces all his friends of dire circumstances is much ado about nothing. The cause of Henny Penny, Turkey Lurkey, and Chicken Little's apoplexy is an acorn falling and hitting the chick on the head. (It actually never moves in this rendering.) Meanwhile, the villainous Foxy Loxy plots to capture Chicken Little for his meal. The delightful cartoon illustrations by Bea Moritz are merely photographed with an occasional zoom. A fly buzzes by animatedly during the closing credits, but it's too little too late. Erin Yuen narrates the different voices of the animals with excellent believability, though, and may inspire young children to act out the silly barnyard antics. VERDICT One really wants to root for Foxy Loxy in this less-than-inspired production.—Lonna Pierce, MacArthur & Thomas Jefferson Elementary Schools, Binghamton, NY
Chicken Little: A Cautionary Tale
Chicken Little and his feathered friends get all aflutter when something falls on his head and he thinks it must be the sky falling to bits. Eventually he learns there is nothing to be afraid of, and perhaps it's better not to panic before you find out the whole story.
