The Code Breaker series is designed to complement explicit teaching of sounds/letter relationships through a multisensory approach, like in the Orton Gillingham program. Ms Mack, a Special Education teacher trained in Orton Gillingham, decided to create this series after struggling to find quality reading materials for older learners with learning differences, many of whom are English Language Learners. The Code Breaker series is designed to be graphically appealing to an older audience (3rd grade and up) while providing sequential phonics practice.

About the Author

JoAnn Mack has been teaching special education since 2005. For most of her career, she has worked with students who are identified as both language learners and have an identified disability. Ms. Mack obtained a master's degree and certification in working with ESL or English language learners in 2009. She uses the Orton Gillingham approach with her students and is interested in creating materials for language learners who also have a reading disability. Ms Mack is passionate about creating supports that help each of her students reach their potential as she firmly believes that with the right teaching and supports, every student can learn.
