Purpose: The purpose is to provide students and practicing medical assistants with a medical billing and coding reference, according to the author. It is formatted in text, tables, and grids to help readers quickly and accurately find information for immediate use.
Audience: The audience includes medical assisting students, practicing medical assistants, and any other individuals interested in a quick reference tool for medical coding and billing of physician services.
Features: The book contains documentation, payer, and coding guidelines. The eight tabbed sections cover general billing guidelines, evaluation and management coding, surgery coding, radiology coding, medicine coding, modifiers for CPT codes, diagnosis coding guidelines, and HCPCS coding rules. The book is small and truly would fit in a lab coat or jacket pocket. It is designed to be waterproof and reusable.
Assessment: This is an interesting little book, jam-packed with information. The size of the print is a bit too small for my reading pleasure, but if I needed something to carry in my jacket pocket while I worked to reference coding, billing, and patient registration rules, this would be it! It is very reasonably priced.
