When I first read the reviews for this book I thought "yeah, right." How can these readers be so caught up in what I believed from book descriptions to be a story of forced slavery? I started the book months ago only to stop in the middle of the first chapter. I didn't think that I was ready to enter this dark and unsettling world. I went back to it the other day, just to "get it over with." I finished about 5 minutes ago, and maybe I should wait a bit before doing a review, but I have to get these feelings out. What the ever loving mind f***k did I just read!? I feel disgusted with myself that I loved it so much, and that, like Emily, I came to see Master as gentle and generous. I think that even after reading some of the clues in his journal, but, while I noticed and they niggled in the back of my mind, it didn't click for me until it clicked for Emily. The bigger picture, the actual game Master had been playing at the whole time, just, um... wow. I think, especially the way the book is written, that I developed Stockholm Syndrome while reading this book. I had read reviews by readers basically saying the same thing, and, again, I thouht they were out of their minds. Kitty Thomas wrote the story in a way that the reader is right there with the characters. I, too, found myself wanting Master to be happy. After Emily had her "freedom", I found myself feeling like the bad cell was better than where she was in her life. It hurt a little to know that he could never have feelings for her, or anything, I'd like to imagine, from heretofore, that one day these two will be in a loving, albeit BDSM, relationship. That said, THIS IS NOT IN ANY WAY,SHAPE,OR FORM A LOVE STORY. YOU WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED IF YOU GO IN TO THIS NOVEL WITH THAT EXPECTATION. Not sure why I felt the need for all caps, it seemed like an all caps moment. Without giving much more away, I can't put anything else in this review. Maybe I need a support group and we can sit around and discussed how f**ked up our brains are after reading this. Or, I could just join a book club. I really wanna talk about this book with someone, just to purge it from my system. I recommend this book for people who can stomach a really twisted and dark story that messes with your mind. Not recommended for the faint of heart. Even though there is no non consentual violence, if you notice, Ms. Thomas never describes Master as having emotions either. Which makes is doubly screwed up that, given that he never expressed any emotion, and was not capable of doing so, and HE NEVER SPEAKS ONE WORD DURING THE ENTIRE BOOK!, we, as readers, still became irrevocably attached to this man. That is a true testament to the author's talent.

I am not a regular reader of erotica. I got this book after reading a very intriguing blog review. I wasn't the least bit afraid to read something outside my comfort zone so I took the plunge and am very glad that I did! This book is very well written. Ms. Thomas made me connect and even fall in love with both Emily and Master. I mean, really, I actually like the man who has painstakingly prepared and planned the kidnapping of an innocent woman! I was really creeped out by the way Master treated Emily and knew in my mind what he was doing was wrong but at the same time I was kind of turned on by their "courtship". Master never acts violently towards Emily without her consent so it almost makes it seem okay. The way he breaks her is so smooth and complete that they almost seem made for each other. The reader's mind gets messed with just as completely as Emily's! If you enjoy twisted, emotionally charged stories you will LOVE this one. Highly recommended!

I probably should not have read this book. I just was so uncomfortable about the premise of it. It was written well--even the psychologicalbabbel made sense! The eroticism was satifying. My one big "but" was it made me soooooo sad. I was sad about it for several days after reading it; hence, the 4 stars--because it could garner a true emotion from me. I know it is a story on the edge; and I hope I am naive enough to pray this could never be real, but doubtful. Read it at your own risk.

i read this book in four and a half hours, all i can say is wow! twisted, erotic, just plain jaw dropping. i've read some f**kn' awesome erotica, but this is one of those books that leave you eerily wigged out but horny too. its f**kn' freaky...i just dont have the words.....

This book is well written, and really enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this book. I think it's important to note that you shouldn't let the disclaimer scare you away from reading this book.(Re: about how the slavery that occurs in the story is non-consensual) It is (for me, at least) easy to imagine as a fantasy story. (I want to say more, but I'm afraid I'd give too much away!)

Much praise to Kitty Thomas for exploring a topic that most people wont even think to touch. A complete mind f*** of a book, but I just couldn't seem to put it down. For once I wasn't annoyed with the main female character in a book. I'm so glad Thomas allowed her character to go somewhere no character has gone before. Great job! And I will be reading more from this author soon.

Goodness, where to start. This tale is so wrong but yet very titilating! I can actually see how this totally messed up senerio Could happen and that in itself is weird. This story reminds me somewhat of the movie the Secretary w Maggie Geyllenhal and James Spader weird but still hot to the supposedly "normal" population.

I had a sample of this on my nook for weeks. I finally read the reviews on it and decided to give it a shot. I am soooo glad i bought this!! Yes this book is very dark. It is disturbing. It makes your mind whirl. But itll definitely make you think. I felt everything was so real. Like a memoir. Emily seemed so real. Even though Master kept her, did cruel things to her, it didnt feel like he was bad guy. This book was so worth buying and as soon as im done writing this review, im lookng at kitty thomas' other books :)

A great story of the human psyche if you can "read between the lines." Well done.

I want to thank Kitty Thomas for giving me exactly what I wanted in this book. Is it normal? No. Is it right? Probably not in a court of law, but then, at some point or another this book is more about choices than it is about kidnapping or any of the major plot fixtures. The round about way that society is dealt with in this book is what impressed me about the writing and story. A sexy, almost relatable story that I've enjoyed twice now, Comfort Food is perfect. If you enjoyed the movie Secretary, you'll probably enjoy this.

First thing that jumped out at me was just how well it was written. It is very dark, twisted, and emotional. I really didn't think I was going to like it given the disclaimer, but I absolutely loved it.

I don't believe it is possible to do a review on this book without using the word disturbing. It is that in spades and I nearly didn't make it past the middle of the book. But the story wouldn't let me go and I'm glad I finished. All I could say after the last page was "Wow." The ending ties up the entire book and will stay with me for a long time. As I write this, Comfort Food is rated 5 stars after 48 reviews on Amazon. My advice is to read through the reviews and see if you can handle this story. It's not a romance, rather a psychological journey that will stay with you for a long time.

This is the ultimate read of a total submission nature. Well written and gripping in itself.

Mesmerizing, dark, psychologically intricate & twisted. The author intense descriptions of emily's emotions (sexual & psycholgical) absorbs the reader so completely that it seems the reader is there reacting with emily. I am disturbed that I too was falling under the spell of the master! Not a story that is easily forgotten.

Comfort Food was totally different from what I normally read but I liked it. Master broke her after several months. Was surprised he let her go and more surprised she came back. She didn't fit back into her life after all those months of being held captive.

The only reason I gave it four stars is because of its brevity. I wanted more. The characters are fleshed well in a very short time. I will continue to read books from this author

This is the second book from Kitty Thomas that I've read. It's a great little story that delves deep into the psyche very quickly but without the gaps and underdevelopement that other authors fall victim to when writing a novella. Her characters are well rounded, the lack of dialogue takes nothing away from the meaningful communication between them and her story has some surprises. It's definitely worth the few hours it will take to consume this read.

Comfort Food is one of my all-time favorite books. It follows the theme of Kitty 's other books that I have read, ownership of a human. A while back I reread it and decided to share about it's greatness. First off, I have always loved psychology, my major. Comfort Food is chalked full of behaviorism. The writing style totally draws you in. Emily speaks directly to you, telling you about everything. You are reading a personal, sexy, dark science experiment. The story begins with Emily waking up after having been abducted and imprisoned. Master, we never learn his name, is one of my top book boyfriends ever. He is always so in control and put together. Nothing rattles him or causes him to deviate from his plans. He's gorgeous, intelligent, rich, sexy, patient, determined, focused and leaning toward psychotic. Steadfast in getting his desires met, he wants to own her and everything about her by her choice. He never forces her to do anything, but lays the options in such a way that she wants to please him. Comfort Food takes us threw the process step by step of modifying Emily's beliefs, desires and thoughts about her life and the world. I cannot explain how interesting this truly is. You must read it for yourself.
