About the Author

Alan Clements is an author, journalist, spoken word artist, and former Buddhist monk. One of the first Westerners to ordain in Myanmar, he was later expelled for speaking out against military rule. For decades, he has worked alongside Burma's resistance leaders-including Aung San Suu Kyi-to document the country's struggle for democracy. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, Time, Newsweek, and other major media. His books include Burma: The Next Killing Fields?, A Future to Believe In, and The Voice of Hope, a landmark series of conversations with Aung San Suu Kyi.With Conversation with a Dictator, Clements offers a literary act of defiance-part novel, part political reckoning-for a world grappling with rising authoritarianism. It is his most unflinching work to date-a confrontation with tyranny, and a global call to remember those still imprisoned for speaking the truth.
