Oui, love knows no boundaries as our protagonist proves. Alex du Villier, our main character, falls in love with a servant girl. However, he later learns the girl, Nicole, is a Creole from a once wealthy background. The chemistry between them is great, and they defy the societal codes of that era. Nonetheless, their love prevails. Kat Martin gives the reader a warm insight into history during a difficult time in American society. Yes, love wins in the end -- Bravo. Keep writing Kat Martin, and I'll keep reading all your genres!

The thing that total irritated me, was how the whole sequence of the story was on repeat. "I can't marry you..I love you..I can't marry you" blah blah blah. Then the story line completely stopped, like everything was suspended. Female angst meeting male emotional blindness makes a total loss of what could have been a good book. Especially when the characters repeat actions and words continually.
