About the Author

When Juli Page Morgan found out she could play rock records and get paid for it she got her first job at a radio station when she was a teenager. To her everlasting delight, that job came with All Access backstage passes where Juli got to know those beautiful men who made the music. She stood side-stage as they played, has been on their tour buses, in their hotel rooms, and backstage in their dressing rooms and at the aftershow parties. She takes you there with her in her books—stories that aren’t some far-fetched fantasies, but the real deal. Though the Mississippi Gulf Coast will always be “home,” Juli and her husband currently live in Arkansas. When she isn’t writing, Juli records voiceovers for television commercials. She’s shamelessly in love with vinyl records, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, and French Onion dip, not necessarily in that order. Juli’s the Bestselling author of Romances for the Bohemian Soul, including The Illicit Novels and other sexy rockin’ things.

Crimson and Clover is fun for a lot of reasons, not the least of which being that it's one of the few historical romances not set in Regency England! Ms. Morgan's characters are enjoyable and well-developed, and this is a longer than normal romance novel, giving the story plenty of time to play out and develop satisfactorily. I particularly enjoyed this one because it had me wondering until the end how things would work out--you know when you pick up a romance that there's going to be a happy ending, but I found myself feeling unsure at times. All in all, Crimson and Clover is a clever, emotional, fun read.

"The two girls took up a position where they'd be out of the way, but would still have a commanding view of the stage. Jay looked up at George and silently counted out a beat. And the room exploded with rock and roll." ******* That quote pretty much sums up this book. Sure, Crimson and Clover is labeled as a romance but it's so much more. This is a story about rock and roll, and love, and challenge, and getting together, and trying to stay together. It's about a man and a woman who come up against the realities of the 60s and who try to make it work. It's about being groovy, and Led Zeppelin, and smoking, and free love, and great times. And some heartache in between. Call me someone with a skewed perception, but there are few books out there that hit what rock and roll, and the people behind it, is all about. Given Juli's history (go read her bio) and you'll immediately understand why this story rocks on so many levels. Though the setting is spot on, the characters are what make Crimson and Clover so meaty. They're flawed. They deal with real life crap. They fight and make up. There is no holding back in this book. Juli Page Morgan tells it like it is. Better yet, the characters stay true to themselves and don't change for the sake of getting the girl or the guy - a huge personal pet peeve of mine. They offer a take it or leave it attitude, much like the author presents the story itself, and you can't help but get sucked into these characters' entwined, faulted, and wonderful lives. Juli hit all the right notes in Crimson and Clover. The mood, the music, the slang, and the little tidbits that were such a big part of everyone who grew up during such a troubled and yet simple era. This is a must-read for anyone who loves classic rock and roll. Better yet, this is a must read for someone who's looking for something real.

Juli Morgan's Crimson and Clover is a fun and fabulous romance novel with a unique setting. The late 1960's don't seem THAT long ago, but as I was drawn into the story, I realized Morgan was introducing me to a world long gone. The hippies, the mods, the innocent spirit of free love and drug experimentation... We're too wise and cynical now for such a movement to take root in contemporary times, making the 60's counter culture fresh new territory for historical romance. Katie is a love child who leaves behind San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury scene to make a fresh start in London. There, she quickly makes a new crowd of friends as deep into rock music as she. At her housewarming party, Katie meets Jay, an up and coming guitarist whose musicianship Katie has long admired on her vinyl collection. When they meet, the attraction is instantaneous, the connection deep. If the couple's setup sounds typical, the follow-through is anything but. As Jay's new rock band rises to stardom, he and Katie are subjected to extended separations brought on by touring. And Katie, having been around the rock scene for a while, knows what rock stars get up to in their hotel rooms while they're on the road. The Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n Roll credo Katie and Jay both embraced now drives them to the brink of ruin. Morgan holds nothing back in testing the bonds of this rock 'n roll fantasy. But while the lows are gut-wrenching, the highs (!!!) are exhilarating. The chemistry between Katie and Jay is HOT. Like, my Nook melted into a steaming puddle of goo HOT. Our hero and heroine have flaws and insecurities, which make the strength of their passion so much sweeter. Katie is Jay's safe harbor, and he's her very own rock god. Their love is believable and their ups and downs were a wonderful, emotional journey. Ms. Morgan does a stellar job breathing life into the time period, without ever falling into the cliched or contrived. And man, does this book have a soundtrack! Full marks for keeping the rock coming. Crimson and Clover is a classic rock enthusiast's dream come true, but will appeal equally to readers who enjoy unusual historical settings or lovers of rock star romance.

Let me start off by saying that this is not the type of book that I normally read. After all, it is a Romance novel. However, be that as it may, this was a joy to read. The story was intriguing and well written. The writing style of this author literally puts you in the middle of the story and allows your mind to visualize the settings as if you were actually there. Set in London during the late 60's, Crimson and Clover takes you on a fun ride of the ups and downs of the rock star and groupie lifestyle. The characters are well defined and their struggles are handled with humor and class. If you like a hero and heroin story with a lot of passion and personality, then this might just be the story for you.

Better than Woodstock.... Okay, I wasn't old enough to go to Woodstock, and as the daughter of an Army Officer during the Vietnam Era, I probably wouldn't've attended anyway, but I've seen the pictures and I bet this book is way better than Woodstock....or, at least, less muddy! Since Juli and I belong to same writing group, I've been reading this book for a while now, and I'm still going to plunk my money down and buy it... and I think you should, too. These are characters that struggle with real life (okay, not my real life) issues--and handle them about as well as most of us would, I suspect!  So, roll up onto the Magical Mystery Tour bus, dig out your bell bottoms and love beads and have a far out time with Jay and Katie.....

Author Juil Page Morgan’s debut novel, CRIMSON AND CLOVER, was a spot-on rockin’ read. As someone who was born at the tail end of the sixties, I loved being able to experience all the turbulent times and fervent love affairs of the period. Juli’s backstage knowledge of the rock star lifestyle adds depth and detail to the story and I found myself drawn into her world and unable to stop turning pages. Hero Jay is one sexy beast and heroine Katie is a feisty girl with a heart of gold. Together the sparks fly. The author doesn’t shy away from the downside of fame, nor the toll such excess can take on those they love, but all is handled with grace and well-placed humor. If you’re looking for a story filled with passion, great characters, and groovy locations, CRIMSON AND CLOVER is the book for you! ***I was given an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review.
