About the Author

Miguel A. Altieri is an associate professor and entomologist at the Division of Biological Control, University of California, Berkeley. He is also research and training adviser for the Latin American Consortium on Agroecology and Development (CLADES) based in Santiago, Chile. He teaches courses in agricultural ecology, rural development, and integrated pest management in developing countries. He also conducts international short courses in the United States and Latin America on biological control and agroecology in addition to researching methods to enhance biological control agents of pests in annual agricultural systems and orchards, and ways of improving productivity of traditional farming systems in the Third World.
