About the Author

J.D. Brown knows that vampires exist because she's dating one and no, he doesn't sparkle. Unfortunately, he's not immortal either. A magnet for subcultures and weirdness, J.D. was that socially awkward girl with more fictional friends than real ones. As a child battling a hearing loss and Muckle-Wells Syndrome, J.D. found comfort in books where strong women always saved the day and got the guy. An obsession with Charmed, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer led J.D. to believe that her mutated chromosome made her something more, not something less. Thus her stubborn flare to persevere was born. A lover of fine cuisine, coffee, and shoes, J.D. never understood why shoe stores don't serve Starbucks and soufflé. She resides in Wisconsin were she writes urban fantasy-aka vampires for adults-and has political debates with her dogs. She loves to hear from fans and is active on http://Facebook.com/AuthorJDBrown

Is Ema ever going to get a break? I’m sure author J. D. Brown has got to bend sometime! Dark Liaison, book 2 in the Ema Marx series is carrying the tradition of dark danger, explosive action and heart-taunting romantic intrigue. Ema has resurrected her ancestor, Apollyon, not realizing the hell she is unleashing on an unsuspecting world. Now amassing his own evil supernatural army, his plans to overtake the world can come to fruition. Only one young vampire seems to be standing in his way, Ema. Trying to stay one step ahead of Apollyon and Jesu’s brother Jalmari, Ema and Jesu go into hiding, under the protection of other vampyres. Ema may be the prophesied one, but a fighter, she is not. Enter Bridget, who befriends Ema as she trains her to protect herself. But does Bridget have her own agenda? Does it have anything to do with Jesu? Is there anyone who can be trusted to be an ally? What plans do others have for Ema? Will she be able to survive the final showdown when it comes? With her special gifts, some intense training and a lot of luck, the best odds she gets are 100-1 against that happening and she knows it. But how long can she safely hide? No doubt about it! J. D. Brown can tell a dark and edgy tale with the best of the authors. The attention to detail is magnificent; every scene is like a 3D view of her world, and the tension? The tension spikes and spikes and spikes, and our poor trusting Ema continues to be tricked, fooled and abused, both emotionally and physically. Is it making her a stronger individual or is she beginning to crack from the pressure of this unfamiliar world? Perhaps she would just like to go back to what she knows, but surely, there is no looking back, now. Too bad the future is one big question mark for her. Like the edgy side of vampyres and supernaturals? Like a slightly different take on the abilities and powers each clan possesses? Want the answer to: Why vampyres do not walk in the sunshine? It’s all here, all between the covers of some wonderfully intriguing reading.

This book is the second in the Ema Marx series. It picks up where Dark Heirloom leaves off. Ema is still learning, and the reader is catapulted into her life once again. It seems like trouble follows her every where she goes. Just when you think things are settling down and going to be alright... taa, taaa. dummmmmm. the cliff hanger comes! Another wonderful read by J. D. Brown.

A new version about vampires and their grandparents! You know that feeling when you get a good bokk in your hands and you don't want to open it just yet because you know that crazy rush from reading is going to be too short and you just want to hang on it? That was how I was feeling before opening my kindle, that experience of a rush like no other, and I kept getting more with every page that I've read until... it was over, but let's talk about what you really want to hear, shall we? But before that, be carerful because there are some spoilers ahead- in the last book we learned that Ema really was THE human that Jesu had the premonition about. She was the one that could defeat Apollyon, the self-appointed King. But Ema has no fighting experience so how is she supposed to kill Apollyon? That's Jesu's job: to train her so she would become the warrior they want, but who really wants for Ema to fulfill her destiny and who are her enemies? So se is flying to Germany with Jesu so Ema can begin her training sessions and even though Ema has growing feelings for Jesu, she holds back. After all their history and all the danger they are facing, would it be wise to start something that could end badly, or even worse destroy their kind? But Bridget offers to train Ema and to teach her their history of her kind. That's a really good thing because she can find out more and in the same time she has a pretext to keep her distance from the object of her lust... But what you don't know is the little fact that Bridget is a old flame of Jesu. Don't worry he doesn't love her know, but she wants him back and like that old saying keep ypur friends close and your enemies...Well, Ema would learn that on the hard way when she flat out rejects him and he turns to Bridget, she accepts him. And then Ema sees them kissing so it's safe to say that she isn't too happy about it. With all this drama, we see some action when Apollyon comes after Ema with the help of some Zombies and Ema is seen using her powers in public. As her punishement, she must face the German vampyre King for sentencing. Now, Ema is alone, without the man she loves, because know is sure about her feelings and in so much troube that she can't find her way out. What would she do? While I loved Ema for her courage and fiery nature, I was upset that she couldn't take a chance and give in to her attraction, more thatn that she keept rejecting Jesu, when he obviously, wanted a relationship with her... Final Decision- do you want a book packed with romance AND action, than this one is for you. It's a book that offers a new version about the origin of the vampires- making them successors of the nephilims kind.

Ema Marx continues on her journey to meet her destiny, I am not big on giving much away to details from a book. But, this was a great continuation from book 1, I am hoping to purchase signed books from JD ( I like it that much) . JD weaves a great tale, the only issue I found was too much detail in 2 locations in the book. the ending is a total cliff hanger I am itching to read book 3. JD does have a (at this time) free story that preludes the current 2 books. I give this a total 5 stars , you feel intune with most of the characters, Love it. as always I do not mind if you have questions for me about any of my reviews.By Rebecca Baker

3.5 stars worth reading... Total Pages: 677; Story Pages: 635 Ema Marx series, book #3 The title says book #2 but it is actually book #3. This one was a bit better than the last book in the series; more action and Ema & Jesu admit their love for each other. Really hated how the book ended though; it just left me kinda hanging so now have to wait and wonder what happens next.

Reviewed by Melinda Hills for Readers' Favorite Ema continues to learn about her unique gifts, abilities, and responsibilities as a newly developed vampyre in Dark Liaison by J.D. Brown. Unlike many others of her kind, Ema has a special set of gifts to help prepare her for her specific destiny. She must not only learn to use them but also determine the allegiances of other characters in the realm of the mystical, right in the heart of modern society. Not sure who to trust and how much she can afford to rely on her feelings for Jesu, Ema must carefully navigate clan politics and gain insights into historical connections between rival leaders. Constantly in danger from the attempts of Appolyon to capture and kill her, Ema quickly learns to take advantage of her instincts and will to survive to remain free, save those who are important to her, and, above all, trust in love. J.D. Brown continues the exciting story of Ema Marx, a superior breed of vampyre, in Dark Liaison. Escaping the death order of one clan, Ema turns to the protection of another and quickly becomes enmeshed in a complicated set of promises and duties. Brown skillfully blends current issues with legend and fantasy to create a world that is as real as what we experience every day. The characters have unique personalities and interact in a complicated mixture of old world tradition, basic survival instincts, and diplomacy. Ema is a character with depth – she must come to terms with her new life as a vampyre while facing the most ancient power-hungry king with an unquenchable desire to dominate the realm of the undead. This is a great story that is almost impossible to put down.

Dark Liaisons has something for everybody: mystery, intrigue, love, betrayal ,good and evil. I quickly became engrossed in this book, fell hard for the characters, and loved the edge of your seat moments that kept me up past my bedtime. My only regret is not having read the first book in this series, Dark Heirloom. Not because it took away from the story, but because I missed having these characters in my life sooner. So I will be reading the first book and the cliffhanger has me anxiously awaiting the next segment.

Great story coupled with great writing. This is a 400 page book that I read in one day; one day that flew by before I knew it. I read the first book of the series and felt much the same. When I got the second book, I was hoping it might be as good but prepared for moderately good. Now I'm not sure if book 1 (Dark Heirloom)or book 2 is the best. This book could stand on its own even though it is part of a series, but I think the reader would get much more out of the story if read in order. This book picks up where the last one left off. We see Ema again and she's with constant Jesu. We get to see how their relationship grows. The trust is not completely there yet, but it's growing as well. Apollyon is back and worse than ever *what a jerk*. Jesu's old love interest, Bridget, enters the story as well causing some relationship conflict. We also get introduced to the Alpan vampyre clan, zombie vampyres, an incubus, and the "old crone" is back as well. With this book your get romance, action and adventure, ancient history and mythology, and a mystery. What's not to love? On top of that Ema is a great and strong female character. She cares deeply and jumps into situations, but isn't too heedless. She's stubborn, but not pathologically so. Ema has insecurities, but they don't run her life or paralyze her. They are a working part of her that keeps her grounded. I think she's a great role model for women. In fact this book is chocked full of strong women whether as good guys or bad guys.

Ready for J.D.'s next book - hurry please;) Book Review – Dark Liaison - Ema Marx Series (Book 2) Author – J.D. Brown Genre – New Adult, Paranormal Romance First Line: I crossed my right leg over the left. Review: This story takes right off from the first book, Dark Heirloom – Ema Marx, a vampyre born of two humans, involves herself in accidently bringing Apollyon, an eight thousand year old Master evil vampire, to life and now she runs for her life with Prince Jesu Korento. Jesu plays protector, finds an ally and uses it as a means to move Ema as far away from Apollyon as possible.  Jesu and Ema have a major attraction to each other, but a DNA issue from centuries past may create a wedge in any future relationship. None the less, Jesu swears to keep her safe even though his brother, Prince/King Jalmari, launches a death warrant on her head. Ema jumps into deeper trouble by not following rules of the ally, which leads her to a desperate decision and situation that will change life as she knows it forever. Can she formulate a plan in time to win against Apollyon before humans and vampyres are destroyed and the hands of history turn back to a reigning evil vampire? Yes, some heavy, heavy tension in danger and love, plus secrets, and who’s a good guy and who’s a bad guy – bravo Ms. Brown¿ Ema’s voice rakes me directly into her life, her passions, her fears, and her own personal secrets.  Ms. Brown pens a wild, perilous paranormal tale, full of twists turning into the danger zone of where vampyre and vampire meet. I cheered Ema on constantly from the sidelines and am left in turmoil with the ending. *Big deep breath* I need more, Ms. Brown…please, show me more and very soon¿ Highly recommended. Kay Dee Royal

Dark Liaison is a excellent edition to the Ema Marx series! J.D. Brown paints such an amazingly detailed picture of the characters and their surroundings it's like you are standing right beside them in the story. I am a huge fan of the characters in this series and was thrilled to meet some very interesting new ones this time around. Now even though the first half of the book was more a look into how Ema was handling everything that has been happening to her and also her confusing feeling for Jesu the second half was an amazing whirlwind of chaos and action both good and bad. And I have to say J.D.'s bad guys and creatures take your imagination to a whole new level! At the end Dark Liaison quickly wraps up to a shocking surprise and it's clear Ema still has a whole lot of growing up to do and some very difficult decisions to make. I really can't wait to find out what happens next and in my opinion Dark Liaison is definitely recommended!
