From USA Today bestselling author Katie Reus comes the final story in the sensual, pulse-pounding Darkness series...

When a bringer of death...

Awakened after millennia, dragon warrior Reaper is ready to fulfill his destiny...until he sees Greer. With one glimpse, everything Reaper has ever known throughout his very long life is irrevocably changed. Greer's his mate, he feels it in his blood, in his soul—but convincing her is another matter. The dragon clan healer finds him obnoxious and annoying, but he knows a woman's interest when he smells it. And Greer smells like one word: mine.

Meets a giver of life...

Greer has spent hundreds of years using her healing abilities for the good of others, making her the polar opposite of Reaper. The ferocious war general may be an ancient, but his arrogance proves he hasn't spent any of that time learning about women. Greer is displeased when her Alpha sends her to New Orleans with the insufferable warrior—then she sees him in action against a menace threatening to tear the city apart. Fierce, protective, magnificent...mate-worthy. Maybe opposites do attract, but if they want to live long enough to find out, they'll first have to save the world teetering on the brink of obliteration.

Length: NOVEL
Author note: This is the final book in the Darkness series and can be read as a stand-alone.

Reaper, an ancient warrior dragon, has awakened from hibernation, as have other ancients. Now they are being murdered. Who is responsible? What is the enemy trying to accomplish? As Reaper adjusts to his new world, he's drawn to Greer. She's a healer. I enjoyed seeing how Reaper tries to control his dominant nature. He wants to impress his female. Greer is strong and feisty. She won't be a pushover. Watching their interaction made me smile. Their battle of wills pulled me into their romance. The dialogue reflects their powerful natures. I, also, liked all the other characters. Prima's wild personality adds to the action. I was shocked by all the unexpected action and drama. Suddenly there's a new world for the Humans and the Shifters to adjust to. Katie Reus wrote an exciting story filled with compelling characters and intense action. I'm sorry that the Darkness series is ending but excited to read the upcoming spinoff.

Darkness series finale - full of twists & turns... Reaper, a newly awakened ancient dragon, is on a mission to fight a war that he senses coming, but first he must find his former warrior allies. However, before he can even start his search, he encounters Greer, the Petronilla clan healer, who makes his blood boil. After meeting Conall, the territory’s Alpha, and discovering fellow ancient Prima with the clan, they embark on the search. Once in New Orleans, Reaper discovers ancient dragons are being killed and someone is spreading a multitude of lies that he’s the killer… the big question now: who’s friend and who’s foe? Darkness Rising, book 9 in the Darkness series is non-stop action with surprising twists and turns throughout! Friends, enemies, new allies, and romances are all unveiled. A fun recommended read. While can be read as a stand-alone, it is better enjoyed as part of the series. ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review.

Reaper is awakened after a long Hibernation because his blood told him war was on the horizon. He is determined to find other warriors to help in the battle to come. Before he can figure out how to find those warriors, he meets Greer and it's hard for him to focus on anything but getting to know her better. And Greer is focused on trying to avoid Reaper and her attraction to him. When one of the warriors Reaper is trying to find is located in New Orleans, Greer is asked by her Alpha to go to keep an eye on him. Once they are in New Orleans, strange things start to happen and escalate into all out war all over the world. Joining forces with other supernaturals, Reaper and Greer helped to maintain control of New Orleans. They also embraced the fact that they were mates. Instead of returning to her clan, Greer and Reaper decide they are needed more in New Orleans to help rebuild as others were doing all over the world. Hopefully better than before.

I hate the end of a series. To me it is bittersweet. I have loved the characters and situations from the Darkness Series and this final book fit the series so well, but took it up a notch! When Katie Reus ends a series, she definitely does it with a bang … and I hope with a potential to show what she is going to dabble in next (at least that is my hope!). So what do you get when you pair a healer with a ancient dragon that use to be named the Dragon of War? Sit back and enjoy the sparks and hilarity that comes. I swear I Iaughed more times reading this book than I have any other of Katie. What she had come out of Reapers mouth was totally hilarious. He is a very no nonsense type of character that is use to one way of doing things, but he definitely gave it his all when it came to showing Greer what she meant to him. And poor Greer, WOW did she have some patience. But she is no shrinking violet to gets scared at the drop of a hat. She is a dragon of age and understands that sometimes you have to do something to save those around you. She is a definite match to Reapers dangerous dragon and she has enough patience and understanding to deal with such strong characters as the ancients that have begun to awaken. I hate finale books, but if they are written well I love them at the same time. And I absolutely ADORED DARKNESS RISING. I think Reaper was hilarious at times as his character did not have a filter and what came out of his mouth was freaking awesome! Greer is a beautiful and peaceful character, but she is a dragon and can cause danger as well. But what I really liked was how over the top this finale was! This was a HUGE change that I didn’t see coming. Dragons have always hidden, but now they are out in force and taking names. Overall, wonderful ending to an awesome series and I hope with all of my readers heart that we will get to see another series spring up in relation to the what happened in this book. I really liked the new characters that were introduced and would love to see how the world handles their new reality. Two high thumbs up from me and happy reading!

Dragon warrior Reaper is ready to fulfill his destiny…until one glimpse of Greer irrevocable changes everything. She’s the polar opposite of Reaper and thinks he’s obnoxious and annoying, until Greer sees how fierce, protective, magnificent and mate worthy he is. With a menace threatening to tear the city apart, Greer and Reaper can only hope to live long enough to find out if opposites attract. The final book in the ‘Darkness’ series is a ‘Wykedly Wild,’ stunning and nail biting read that has really gets readers blood pounding. The characters are strong and full of energy with some magnetic chemistry that pulls readers into their story. The romance between these two is a bit rocky but that just makes their relationship so much more spicy because the sparks fare flying and the heat is building. The plot is faced past with lots of thrilling suspense, exhilarating action and magnificent battles that has readers’ jaws dropping in disbelief. The suspense steadily builds throughout the story so that readers are edge as they know something big is going to happen and then BAM! it happens and the readers is in no way prepared for the world changing events that has readers’ hair standing on end. The New Orleans setting for this major twist in the ‘Darkness’ series is a perfect back drop that really adds to the stupendous reading experience, so while readers are sad that it is ending, they are thoroughly pleased with Reaper and Greer’s story.

Intense & Entertaining!!! This was such a fantastic paranormal read. The attraction, chemistry and sexual tension between Greer and Reaper was undeniable from their very first meeting and it only intensifies throughout the story. I enjoyed how Reaper riled Greer up. This story not only gives us Reaper and Greer's story but we also see other characters we have come to love and can't get enough of, and a few new characters come into play. This story just like the previous ones does not disappoint. This is the last book in the series and it's full of suspense, destruction and action but I'm excited to read the spin-off series coming. The world needs rebuilding and I'm excited to see how every Alpha rebuilds their territory while enjoyed some of my favorite characters.

DARKNESS RISING (Darkness #9) By Katie Reus Darkness Rising is the 9th book in the Darkness Series and is the final one. As is true Katie Reus fashion, this is still as fresh, a compelling read as ever. This can be read as a stand alone book, but reading the prior ones will enrich the story in my opinion. This is the story of Reaper who is the Dragon of War and Greer who is a healer for the Petronilla clan. He is an ancient that has recently been awakened from his hibernation and Greer comes finds him. Reaper realizes immediately that Greer is his mate, but convincing her will take some effort. They need to get to the bottom of what is causing this. This story has action, great plot, chemistry and my favorite...we get some past characters from the series. Great job Katie! I give this book 5 stars.

Dragon war - So awesome! This may be the last book in the series but it's definitely NOT the end. So many changes have happened in this world that it takes a spin-off series to tell them. Katie has me hooked on her shifters, especially the dragons! Reaper, the ancient dragon War General has just awoken from a long hibernation with his blood telling him war, fire and destruction are on the horizon, fire would bathe everything. That he is needed and things would soon change. Unknownst to him, the other reason he's awake is his mate, dragon healer Greer is there to witness him awakening. Greer was taking some personal time as healer for the Petronella Clan. She takes him to her alpha Conall and so begins our story. Opposites do complete each other. Something I've always believed if they work as a team. And these two are polar opposites, he full of war and death while she's all about peace and healing. There is so much to love about this story. We get to see other characters we've come to care about working together to save as many as they can. We meet new friends I'm sure we'll see more of in the new series. And the villain of this story is the Zmey Clan bent on ruling the world. There is so much going on in this story that it's hard to put down. I can't wait for the new series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book features Greer and Reaper. Greer is the healing dragon of her clan and Reaper is the ancient dragon who has just awoken from his hibernation. As with all paranormals these two had instant chemistry and Reaper recognized Greer as his mate and was not ashamed or embarrassed to let her and everyone else know that she was his. Greer of course, refused to acknowledge it. Reaper was a warrior, she is a healer, how could they be mates? In the midst of their "courtship" a war is raging. There are some rogue dragons who want to star a war and take over the world. I have to say these scenes were very realistic. Between the Humans and the social media aspect as well as the devastation described was mesmerizing. I could not put this book down. If you've read the previous books, then you will enjoy the updates on previous couples as well as a few of the newer potential couples that have secondary story lines in this book. The ending definitely left the door open for more in this world should the author decide to revisit. And I will be here for it if she does. ARC received in exchange for honest review.

DARKNESS RISING is the ninth and final instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult DARKNESS paranormal, romance series. This is dragon shifters, ancient warrior Reaper, and healer Greer. DARKNESS RISING can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary. NOTE: Darkness Rising is the final instalment Katie Reus’ DARKNESS series but the author has plans for a spin-off. Told from several third person perspectives including Greer and Reaper, DARKNESS RISING follows in the wake of Reaper’s rising from a millennia of sleep. Something, or someone is awakening the ancient dragons towards a prelude to war, a war that pits dragons against humans and other supernatural powers. Upon first awakening Reaper will come face to face with a female dragon shifter, a female he knows he will claim as his mate. Enter dragon shifter and healer Greer, and the woman with whom Reaper will fall in love. What ensues is the search for the power(s) responsible for destroying so many ancient dragons, and the potential fall-out as Greer is targeted in an attempt to take down our story line hero. Reaper was known as the ‘Dragon of War’; a dragon general whose arrogance pushes our heroine’s buttons with every comment, action and need to protect. No longer requiring a clan of his own, Reaper is desperate to claim Greer. Greer is an independent dragon; a healer for her clan, but a female who is determined not to let any alpha male take control of her life or her choices. Meeting Reaper stirs something deep within our storyline heroine, something that continues to grow as their lives are threatened on more than one occasion. The relationship between Greer and Reaper is one of immediate attraction but Reaper is temporarily dependant upon our story line heroine to show him the ways of the modern world. Having no desire for a relationship or mate, Greer continues to fend off Reaper’s advances, advances that will slowly erode the wall around our heroine’s heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters, many of whom we have met throughout the series including several supernatural species, their mates, and their growing families. DARKNESS RISING is a story of family, betrayal, friendship and love. The premise is intriguing and captivating: the characters are sexy and inspiring; the romance is spirited and moving. DARKNESS RISING is another edgy instalment in Katie Reus’ DARKNESS paranormal, romance series.

I was so sad that this is the final story in the Darkness series however at the end I became very excited. This story is focused around Healer Greer and an ancient who has arisen. Greer doesn't want another bossy alpha male in her life so what's a woman to do? Well she heals him of course... Him being Reaper a male like nothing Greer has ever come across. However Mira and Prima know him so he can't be too bad right? Well think again this is The Dragon of War and Greer is not a fighter or warrior by any means. With Reaper being newly awakened he has no clue of this new world he only knows what his visions shared to him and he only knows of the way her scent pulls him. This by far was the best story in this series. We get so much action, and spice, and we get many of the characters from this series also which I always love. Fantastic reading...

Action packed story filled with suspense, determination, revenge and sexual chemistry. Amazing connections and interactions among unique characters add to a wonderfully exciting storyline. This author never disappoints. A must read. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book; all opinions expressed are my own.

Greer was a dragon healer, and on call most of the time, needing time to herself to fly and be alone. Rumbling of the ground brought forth a dragon that had been in hibernation., he is sure if two things, another war, and that Greer is his mate. She is intrigued by this glittering dragon, but baggage first to release. Good plot, from beginning to end. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by Net Galley and K.R publishers.

I have a new dragon to love and his name is Reaper. He's call the Dragon of War and he's an ancient like we have learned about Prima and Mira. Boy does he have a lot to learn about the new world. I've always been a fan of the caveman heroes and you can't get more caveman than an ancient dragon who's been in hibernation for thousands of years. Greer seems up to the challenge of teaching him that he can't just boss her around. It was actually pretty funny to see him crash and burn so much. Prima was a hoot. She knows what Reaper is going through and she enjoyed every minute of Reaper's foot in mouth syndrome. Greer could have been more understanding but I still liked her. She's more of a peace keeper so she really didn't see how Reaper, the God of War, could be anything for her. Despite her preferring peace, she had no problems taking charge when she needed too. I can't speak of where the story went in this book because I don't want to spoil anything, but I like the turn the author took. It seemed fitting for the last book in the Darkness series to end the way it did. The author does say at the end of the book notes that she will be doing a spinoff. I am very happy about this because I have really enjoyed the many characters we have gotten to know in The Darkness series and want to see more of them in the new spinoff. Especially Prima. Please, please give us a book on Prima!

Three and a half stars - three stars for the first half but four stars for the second half. Ancients are awakening everywhere but arguably the most formidable is Reaper, in hibernation for millennia he was one of the most feared dragon shifters, known as the Dragon of War. Greer is a Dragon healer, after a long ago romance with an aggressive warrior who tried to control her she knows her future is with a gentler shifter, maybe a healer like herself and certainly not like the uber-alpha Reaper. The first part of the novella dragged a bit for me, it was all "me alpha you mate", "mine, mine, mine", "let me pleasure you" blah, blah, blah. Greer resists the dominant male and he doesn't understand modern technology and slang. Then suddenly in the second half the plot really took over as a group of rogue Dragons try to decimate New Orleans and create a new world order. There were epic battles, plots, twists, and a stunning finale to what has been a wonderful series - fear not there will be a spin-off. If you love PNR with pushy alpha males strolling around shirtless as much as possible and growling if other males so much as smile at their mate, alphas who are eventually tamed by their feisty females, then I'm sure you will adore everything about this novel. I still enjoyed it despite my initial concerns and look forward to seeing what this spin-off series brings to this strange new world. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
