Overview

Dan DeCarlo is most famously known for his artwork with the ARCHIE COMICS line, particularly for his
creation of Josie of Josie and the Pussycats fame and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Prior to working for ARCHIE
though, Dan DeCarlo had already had a successful career in comics. DeCarlo first started working in the comic
industry for Stan Lee at Atlas Comics. He provided the artwork on titles like JEANIE, SHOWGIRLS, SHERRY THE
SHOWGIRL and of course MILLIE THE MODEL and MY FRIEND IRMA.
While freelancing in the early 1950's Dan DeCarlo drew military humor series for publishers Ziff-Davis and
the Better/Nedor group. For Ziff-Davis DeCarlo - along with inker Rudy LaPick - drew both The YARDBIRDS
and WENDY THE WAF in various issues of G.I. JOE. For Better/Nedor DeCarlo and LaPick drew Pinhead
Perkins, PFC for the war comic JOE YANK.
DECARLO'S ARMY collects Dan DeCarlo's work for all three of his military comic series The YARDBIRDS,
WENDY THE WAF and PINHEAD PERKINS, PFC. Although not as well known as his other work, DeCarlo's
military comics are immensely funny and the artwork brilliant.
