Deep in the Place of the Dead
1943. A world at war.
Armies and partisans attack and destroy each other.
Spies lay traps for spies.
Allies are not always friends.
Combatants and innocents die by the thousands, and fortune and death are often exchanged one for the other.

For Captain Michael Goodman, U.S. Army Air Corps, death looked like a fiery impact on a Bosnian mountainside. Almost...

Northeastern Yugoslavia, August 1943.

The sole survivor of his bomber crew, Goodman must overcome many obstacles to survive in 1943 Yugoslavia. Accustomed to flying above the carnage at ten thousand feet, Goodman experiences war on the ground firsthand as he is thrust into the harsh reality of bitter guerrilla warfare. Unable to escape, he realizes he must embrace his situation to have a chance to survive.

His protectors become his wartime family, and Goodman becomes embroiled in their brutal and desperate fight against Nazi occupiers and neighboring partisan clans. He also witnesses love, trust, and sacrifice in ways he never knew possible, and he emerges from his Balkan hell a changed man.

Deep in the Place of the Dead is a story of survival, daring, betrayal and sacrifice.

**Author's note: This book is based upon the totality of my experiences in combat and interacting with people who have various motives, values, and morals at work. Both the best and the worst of those past relationships are represented in my fiction. Tailored to my hero's experience, there are graphic descriptions of death and brutalities of battle. Likewise, my characters' use of high language and profanity reflects their personalities.
