Overview

There is a green and blooming world beyond our own, fighting back against the human pollutant. This cruel Otherworld is unknowable. Yet, if we are to survive, we must rescue it from our history. Should we fail, more than cities will fall.
ROOTS WILL RISE. CITIES WILL FALL.
Roots, once suffocating under cement, tear through the streets of London to throttle buildings. Vegetable homunculi hold up banks with automatic weapons. There is a green and blooming world beyond our own, fighting back against the human pollutant. We will launch a rescue mission to this Otherworld. But it is cruel and unknowable, and should we become tangled in its vines, more than cities will fall. From Dan Watters (Limbo, The Shadow, Assassin's Creed) and Val Rodrigues comes a story of two worlds, of myth and man, of science and fiction, and the roots they share.
Performed by Eric Messner, Nazia Chaudry, Jenna Sharpe, Scott McCormick, Carolyn Kashner, John Kielty, Jonathan Lee Taylor, Lise Bruneau, Marni Penning, Rayner Gabriel, Amanda Forstrom, Bradley Foster Smith, Chris Stinson, Chris Davenport, Elaine Yuko Qualter, Evan Casey, James J. Johnson, James Konicek, Joe Mallon, Katie Leigh, Matthew Bassett, Matthew Pauli, Michael John Casey, Nora Achrati, Patrick Bussink, Richard Rohan, Steve Wannall, Taylor Coan, Terence Aselford, Tia Shearer, and Yasmin Tuazon.

Editorial Reviews

NOVEMBER 2021 - AudioFile

It's hard to separate hero from villain in this audiobook, which recounts the revolt of plant life against humankind. A full cast, led by narrator Eric Messner, creates a world in which plants have gained consciousness and attacked the enemy that is destroying them—us. The story is a bit fragmented at the start, but it soon smooths out as the performers portray the brave scientists who journey into the heart of the green menace to find answers to the vegetation plague. The actors are well suited to their task, sounding alternately frightened, foolhardy, and, finally, resigned. GraphicAudio provides the usual high-quality sound effects, which are gushy and squishy. The characters are mostly British women, and the actors vividly bring them to life. M.S. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine
