Where Are the Deserts?

There are four deserts in North America, and all of them are found in the US. They are the Chihuahuan, Great Basin, Sonoran and Mojave. The deserts might get rain or snow at certain times of the year. But this moisture evaporates quickly, keeping the deserts dry.

Which desert is closest to where you live? Draw a line from your home to it. How many states did you cross?

Mountain Lion

Mountain Lions are large cats with yellow or light-brown fur. The back legs are longer than the front legs. This helps the cats to jump 20 to 25 feet and run as fast as 40 miles per hour. Mountain Lions prefer to hunt for deer but will also eat other animals. Lions can be seen both day and night in the desert but are very shy.

A cat of many names: puma, cougar, lion, catamount and panther are also names for Mountain Lions!
