This manual of nursing therapeutics covers a wide range of conditions, providing a concise review of each disorder, developmental considerations, and nursing process activities. It aims to provide ""distilled"" and ""cutting-edge"" information that is practicable in fast-paced modern healthcare. Intended for nursing students and staff, it could serve a broad scope of practice venues. Clear print and tables enhance the presentation of data. The absence of graphics is no deterrent. The table of contents is alphabetical for convenience and the index is well-detailed. LOS, DRG's, and descriptors follow the disease title. Nursing assessment includes history, physical exam, diagnostic tests, and nursing diagnoses. Planning/Implementations describe collaborative and independent role functions. Outcome measures are specific for clinical, documentation, and discharge/home health concerns. This is a great text for students, generalist staff nurses, or others who work with a broad range of client ages and conditions in clinics, offices, communities, and acute care. The topics of Guillain-Barre, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, hypothyroidism, fat embolus, and pulmonary fibrosis are excellent. Medications for Alzheimer's and glaucoma fail the ""cutting edge"" criteria. Also missing in glaucoma is low pressure disease and the higher African-American risk. Overall, I recommend the book as an excellent quick refresher for conditions not encountered frequently because it will stimulate safe and comprehensive care.
