This book is an excellent introduction to solar energy. Creating a solar and wind energy system is complicated but the author makes it seem simple. The book covers what's good and bad for the DIY crowd but as the author cautions, this type of system is not for everyone. It can require expertise you may or may not have. It's written for a beginner but takes you through to expert level. I was already familiar with some of the concepts and this book surpassed and confirmed what I already knew. The chapter on calculating your return on investment and how long that will actually take was quite detailed. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for the details, equipment and know how to install your own system. Overal,l I felt like this book was well-written and constructed in an easy to use format. The photos are clear and captioned and not confusing at all. In a way, it's a lot more than just a book because of the accompanying you tube videos.

I'm almost certain Eric Layton is borderline genius. I have been interested in a solar system for quite a while now, but the engineering and construction aspects can be quite intimidating. Back to my point about Layton being a genius, he's been able to easily break the steps down into an easy-to-follow guide and shares his personal experience with building his own solar and wind energy system. While not everyone will be able to do this themselves, it's a great eyeopener and a lot of great, useful information as well.
