About the Author

I had the fortune of growing up in a small rural community that was a mix of farming and college culture.
It was a time when common sense was the norm and where you learned to be independent while knowing you could rely on your neighbors for support.
Along with my fortune of having parents who taught me right from wrong with empathy and compassion, I learned the foundations that would eventually lead me to form the thoughts and ideas expressed throughout this book.
I spent over 40 years working for both small and large businesses. Each with their own challenges in dealing with business change, finances, market relevance and politics.
Whether it was a 100-year-old small business dying from bank mergers in the 1980s or a Fortune 100 business trying to compete against international companies that could build products better and faster, I had the opportunity to observe and learn from their successes and failures.
My degrees in industrial technology, engineering and management science paved the way for my careers in information technology, supplier management, technical sales, design and manufacturing, business management and visual communications.
I have been fortunate to see and be part of historical and technological changes over the past four decades that have changed the world. These experiences taught me to see the bigger picture, to ask the bigger questions, and to recognize the right answers aren’t always the obvious ones or easiest to find. You have to fail quickly if you are going to have time to pivot and succeed quickly. I’m a jack of all trades and a master of none.
