About the Author

Ian Simpson studied at Sunderland College of Art and the Royal College of Art, London. He taught at several colleges and universities including Hornsey College of Art, London, and Syracuse University, New York, was head of St Martin's School of Art, London, 1972-88 and a consultant to the Open College of Arts, UK. His paintings have been included in public and private collections in Britain, Sweden and the United States. He wrote many books and articles and presented three series on art for the BBC.
