About the Author

At the tender age of five, Harold R. Thompson was inspired by a primer and wrote his first two works. He completed his first novel seven years later, and has been writing ever since. While attending university, he spent his summers working at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, a Victorian-era fort in his native Halifax, Nova Scotia. There, he was a member of the 78th Highlanders, an historical re-enactment of the fort's British Army garrison. The job reminded him of his love of history, particularly military history, and he started writing again. After two years of law school, he realized that the lawyer's life was not for him, that he loved storytelling above all else, and so he quit to write. The original edition of Dudley's Fusiliers was published in 1996.He is now a fulltime employee of the Halifax Citadel Regimental Association, a contractor with the Canadian government. He designs and supervises public programming for visitors to the site, which he sees as another form of storytelling. He has also indulged a love of film-making and has shot a few documentaries about the Citadel, including a staff recruiting video.
