Anne of Green Gables: Complete Four-Part Coll
Few Canadian television productions have culled the degree of acclaim earned by writer-producer-director Kevin Sullivan's ongoing adaptations of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne novels. Sullivan began in 1985, with the two-part CBC miniseries Anne of Green Gables, starring then 17-year-old Megan Follows and the legendary Colleen Dewhurst; in addition to a weekly series (Road to Avonlea), the 1985 production generated three follow-ups: the miniseries Anne of Avonlea (1987), the miniseries Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story (2000), and the 2 1/2-hour feature Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning (2008). Each of the four installments (in line with Montgomery's original novels) dramatize events from the life of a young, talkative and energetic orphan girl, and her adventures coming of age on a farm located on Canada's Prince Edward Island. This box set presents all four installments in the main Anne series (Green Gables, Avonlea, Continuing Story and New Beginning) as they originally aired on Canadian television, complete and uncut. The massive ensemble cast includes not only Follows and Dewhurst, but the late Richard Farnsworth (The Grey Fox), Barbara Hershey, and Shirley MacLaine.
