"For a long while, Flavia The Heretic was a much-discussed but little-seen title for Eurocult fans. Thankfully, Synapse Films ended this problem by issuing an impressive disc of this title. The anamorphic, widescreen video transfer does a good job on what was apparently a difficult title to transfer: the elements show some minor age-related damage but the level of detail is crisp and the muted color scheme comes through nicely. Fans will be happy to know this transfer restores the film to its original version, reinstating some controversial bits snipped for stateside screenings. The audio portion of the disc uses the film's original mono English mix and it does its job well. In terms of extras, there is a still gallery and a video interview with star Florinda Bolkan. The quality of the video is less than impressive (it was shot in a noisy restaurant with dim lighting) but Bolkan makes for a captivating interview subject and speaks about her work in Flavia The Heretic with passion and intelligence. All in all, this is a quality edition of Flavia The Heretic and a sure bet for those who appreciate the wilder side of European genre filmmaking."
