"In Trekkies you witnessed the effects of the Star Trek phenomenon on the citizens of the U.S. firsthand, now, take a voyage beyond borders to see the impact of the enduring sci-fi series on a global scale in this belated sequel from Paramount Home Video. Shot on video and presented in 1.33:1, the image is as clean and clear with even skin tones, vivid colors, and little evidence of digital artifacting. Audio is likewise stable and free of distortion throughout. In addition to the main feature, Paramount has also seen fit to include some truly satisfying bonus materials. A feature-length commentary track with director Roger Nygard, host Denise Crosby, and producer Mike Leahy is fun, informative, and serves as a nice bridge between the feature and the numerous deleted scenes that follow. It's obvious the filmmakers have a lot of respect for the Trekkers, and though they don't shy away from the more humorous aspects of the phenomenon, they also provide some interesting background info on the interviewees and the shoot. It's also interesting to hear the trio comment on how they tried to address issues that arose in the wake of the first film -- in particular, the accusation by fans that Nygard and company only exploited the subject by focusing on the more extreme fans. Organized by location and clocking in at just under an hour, the deleted scenes are just as entertaining as the majority of the film and offer even more in-depth interviews with the numerous subjects. It's also fun to watch love bloom at the Star Trek conventions and to spend just a little more time with Star Trek tribute bands Warp 11 and No Kill I. Though filmmakers only briefly touch upon the fan film phenomenon in the feature, the disc also includes clips from both Brian Dellis and Gabriel Köerner's lovingly detailed, shot on video offshoots -- with Dellis even providing an entertaining commentary track for his short Final Frontier Revisited."
