Overview

For one of her last recordings, Etta Jones sings a wide variety of standards, many of which she had not recorded previously. One does not think of such songs as "Did I Remember," "After You've Gone" (definitely an offbeat choice), "They Say It's Wonderful" and "Slow Boat to China" as blues, but Jones gives each tune such a bluesy approach that she transforms them into new soulful pieces. As always, Houston Person's tenor is a perfect match for Jones' voice. The rhythm section with pianist Richard Wyands is swinging and supportive. Recommended. ~ Scott Yanow
