Sitara Maruf's experience includes serving as a print and broadcast journalist, a technical science writer and editor, a press officer, and an English lecturer in the United States. She has also served as a communications and media director in a governor's office.

She earned a master of arts degree in journalism and public affairs from American
University in Washington, DC, and a master of science degree in biochemistry from
University of Pune, India.
