Description: This 12th edition textbook details all aspects of the current practice of respiratory care. Its accompanying website offers study aids and a detailed content outline to help readers direct their studies to board exam content. The book updates the previous edition published in 2016.
Purpose: This textbook encompasses the most relevant information and delves into important respiratory care concepts and resources for respiratory care students. As this text is considered the premier resource for respiratory care, an updated edition is needed. The online resources are terrific and a worthy edition to the textbook. The book and website meet the authors' stated objectives.
Audience: This edition has been updated for respiratory care students, but it is also a valued, up-to-date resource for current respiratory care practitioners. This text is without equal and meets the need of its intended audience. The authors and contributors are the foremost experts in the field of respiratory care.
Features: This book covers all aspects of respiratory care from the history of the profession to acute and critical care. Each chapter begins with objectives, an outline, and key terms, followed by a deep dive into chapter materials. Figures, tables, boxes, images, "Rules of Thumb," "Mini-Clinis," and therapist-driven protocols are found within the chapters to underscore key concepts. Each chapter concludes with a summary checklist and references.
Assessment: This revised edition continues its long-standing tradition started by Dr. Egan over 50 years ago. This book (and its website) is an excellent tool for respiratory care students and graduates preparing for National Board of Respiratory Care's credentialing exams.
