Abraham Halevi is born in Toledo at the end of the 14th century. A doctor with deep convictions, he believes in progress, tolerance, and coexistence. After completing his studies in Montpellier, he returns to Toledo where rich merchant Juan Velázquez hires him to help his wife with a difficult birth. Abraham saves the wife and child by performing a cesarean, something extraordinary for the time. His medical prowess does not shield him from religious intolerance. Juan’s brother, the Cardenal Rodrigo Velázquez, wants to rid the world of heretics. Soon Abraham will have to flee Toledo.
