Description: This is a succinct review of emergency nursing by body system, disaster preparedness, and legal/regulatory issues. The sixth edition was published in 2010, so an update was needed.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide emergency nurses with current, evidence-based information in a concise format. The goal of this revision is to provide both current clinical practice and current trends in practice settings and research, which is a worthy objective. This is a needed book, and it meets its objective.
Audience: The book is written for registered nurses practicing emergency nursing. It meets the needs of the intended audience. The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) identifies the contributors and reviewers as expert authors and reviewers.
Features: The book covers essential core content for practicing emergency nurses. The best aspect of the book is the concise overview of each disease followed by subjective and objective data, diagnostic procedures, analysis or differential diagnoses, planning, implementing, and evaluation. Both the nursing process and the medical history and physical examination (H&P) model are used as the format.
Assessment: This is a quality book for teaching current core curriculum for emergency nursing practice. It is quite useful for all nurses working in emergency departments. This is the gold standard to which other core curriculum books are compared.
