Overview

The breathtaking finale to the USA Today bestselling Cartel trilogy. People aren't born monsters. They're made that way. They're created, fuelled by one singular moment in time when their universe shatters. I'd been with Dornan Ross for the better part of a decade. Slept in his bed, sewn up his wounds, tasted his blood, seen inside his soul. But even I wasn't prepared for what he did. I should have known it would always come down to this, from the very moment I laid eyes on him in that motel. I should have known his salvation was too good to be true. Because it's all gone now, the impossible love I had for him bleeding away in the darkness that came afterward. Now there's only hate. Now I just want to escape. Even if it means I have to kill him to be free. Before the Gypsy Brothers series there was the Cartel - from USA Today bestselling author Lili St Germain. Praise for the Cartel trilogy: 'I have been on a crazy and wild ride with this trilogy and I hate saying goodbye. Empire was a PERFECT conclusion' Betul, Goodreads 'Empire was the perfect ending for this thrilling trilogy' Dee, Goodreads 'Awesome job Lili ... I am ready to hop on the back of a bike and join the club!' LiteraryGossip.com 'I can't believe it took me this long to finally pick up this author ... sign me up for more of the Gypsy Brothers!' Jasmine, Goodreads 'Sensational, shocking, compelling and totally addictive ... the best when it comes to dark, brooding and bloody romance' Kelly, Perusing Princesses

It's not a nice story and none of them are truly good people but their story holds you to them and you care even though they don't deserve it....that is great writing.

I was generously given an ARC. I started the Cartel series from the beginning so when it came to the Empire book, I had to skim and reread the other 2 just so I could have the continuity. This is definitely an edge of your seat story esp since I have not read the Gypsy Brothers series. From what I gathered, Dornan is the villain in the Gypsy series but in the Cartel series the reader gets to experience his evolution into this villain. And since I didn't read the other series, Mariana and John's story was a surprise. Mariana is such a strong character and I feel for her.......and I definitely feel for John, talk about being trapped! I was really conflicted about Dornan.....but Emilio...he was evil personified! This series has a it all and I can't wait to start the Gypsy series!

Jason was sixteen and Jason had found his mother who had been murdered by his father, John;s daughter -Juliette was with John, Mariana, and Jason. Jason and Juliette were in the first stages of love. Mariana was now secretly in love with John. Jason hadn’t even known Dornan until a few months ago. John also loves Mariana and wants to run away but Mariana won’t leave Jason behind. Mariana had been Dornan’s lover for ten years. Dornan had stopped his father from selling Mariana as a sex slave. John had been Dornan’s best friend for about twenty years. Normally Mariana would be working at making sure Emilio”s hefty cartel profits were funneled into all the right places. But it was Emilio”s birthday with a big family celebration. Jason wasn’t taken as Dornan was sure how Jason would react around the people who murdered his mother. Mariana was sleeping with two men - one she loved and one she was terrified of. Mariana had once loved Dornan but now she hated him. Mariana knew she had to leave or she would be dead. Dornan had killed Stephanie- Jason’s mom- because she had run away from him but was also pregnant by Dornan. When Mariana questioned Dornan about Stephanie and had kept asking and the disbelief that Dornan could do that, he beat Mariana and she had miscarried their child she had not told Dornan about yet. Mariana had to deal with the fact the man she once loved no longer existed. I am not sure how I feel about this final installment for this series . But i do now I cried in places while reading this story. I was sad that John never received the happiness he deserved. I did really like how Mariana found a way to play Marcus and Emilio. There was a lot in this story: love turned to hatred, more bloodshed, rape, corruption, murder, family, corruption, drama, plan for freedom. lies, federal involvement, betrayal and pain, and so much more. Maybe again a little too dark for me but I am sure there is people who will love this I was just tore. I did like the plot a lot, I liked the characters also and most of the ins and outs just not one of my favorite stories. However I still felt this was also a cliffhanger and didn’t like that even though there is The Gypsy Brothers MC series but I don’t plan on reading that. I would give this a 3.5 if i could. I don’t plan on reading anymore dark stories if i Can help it at least not this dark.

This is the perfect ending to the Cartel series and it gives you everything that you had hoped for. It’s been quite a ride with Mariana, Dornan and John and it been everything I could have hoped for. I had not read the Gypsy Brothers series yet but I definitely will now because if the writing is anything like it has been for this series it won’t leave me disappointed that’s for sure! Do yourself a favor and grab every book in this series and be ready for some dark and delicious reading. I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley for a freely given honest review.

I'm so happy with the ending with this trilogy, especially after reading the others and getting the shock I didn't expect at the end! I Recommend you read them all in order so you understand Fully! I LOVE DARK ROMANCE & I highly recommend this book!

I struggle with giving this 5 stars. You see, I'm all about the romance in my books and if I had to rate this for romance, I hated it. Take the romance out, it deserves all 5 stars. I'm kind of stunned with what I just read. I've said in other "cartel" book reviews how real it felt. I was so wrong. This one was real. This book was so real it hurt to read about some of the things that happened. In fact, I'm kinda horrified and yet all I can think about is how it was brilliantly written. I don't even have words for how this book ended. There should be a huge fat warning for everyone about to read this book series. This book series is far from safe. It's dark, raw and gritty!
