Overview

..... an evocative collection of poems that deals with life almost in its entirety, starting from childhood and ending in old age and death. Birth and Death.... being two ineluctable constants of life and two intertwining realities, the poet handles these antithetical themes with equal panache. The themes of life, love, loss and death are virtually meshed into a single unit and she weaves a rich tapestry of life with words and images. In many poems, the poet dwells on the transition from the heydays of vigorous youth to the chill of crippling old age. But never does she deny that if life is a challenge and an adventure, death is a passport to an eternal life. The collection rings with wistful longings and nostalgia for the prime days of life, now irrecoverably lost. Love is a recurring subject and the poet handles it with elan and exquisite charm. There is a rare blend of passion and poignancy in them.

Most of the poems are rhyming and musical and their subtle strains and message will caress the readers like a whiff of fresh air invigorating them to higher realms and creating in them a fresh zest for life!

About the Author

Endowed with a flair for language and the gift of fancy, Valsa had a successful career as a language teacher in a reputed college in Kerala, India. Somehow in the midst of actualizing herself as a teacher, wife, mother and home maker, her literary talents were left to hibernate. In 2007 she was bed ridden for a couple of months which left her so helpless and incapacitated to perform any of her accustomed duties which she had gladly and conscientiously performed. But in no way she was ready to waste her life sighing and moaning. She found an outlet to her pent up feelings and emotions through meaningful verse- a dormant talent resurrecting at the opportune time! Surprisingly she was able to compose several poems at a stretch in a short duration. Those poems entitled' Beats'- her first collection remains as a monument of attitudinal excellence.... of making an opportunity out of adversity.

Needless to say.... Valsa's poems are highly inspirational, especially for those languishing in despair at the thought of wasting their lives because of lack of opportunities and physical infirmities. The message her poems give is to 'look for the rainbow when it rains and to seek the stars when it is night'
