Description: This book describes evidence-based patient care that is based on research findings. The research process is linked with strategies through the use of the innovation-decision process: knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. The website offers access to an online version of the book, which has additional features.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide "substantive strategies to assist students with applying evidence at the point of care." There is some value to offering the book in an online format, but the additional resources that are offered online are mostly reprints of the material offered in the print and PowerPoint presentations.
Audience: Students in a baccalaureate nursing program are the intended audience. The only information about the two author/editors and 16 contributors is their credentials and place of employment.
Features: This book is divided into six sections: introduction to evidence-based practice, acquisition of knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. A new feature in this edition is a chapter on epidemiology, which describes applying evidence to populations. Another key feature is "Keeping It Ethical," which integrates ethical content throughout.
Assessment: This is comparable to other research books for baccalaureate students. The ebook is the best feature of the website, but the other online resources are mostly copied from the book.
