Nita L. Chase, named, ‘Nita Louise’ by her beautiful mother, Erma Lee Johnson, is a lover and servant of God first. As a bonus she is wife to Alvin Chase, Sr., mother to three wonderfully intelligent sons; Preston, Alvin Chase, Jr. (AJ), and Desmond. She is also a sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to a large extended family. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and raised in the deepest parts of the South, Nita grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
As a child Nita’s writing began to take form, however, the message met the carrier far too soon so Nita would often discard her work. It wasn’t until later in life did she realize her writing was not only a gift, but intended as a tool to express her intimate relationship with God, man, life and love.
For Nita, poetry is not about how much recognition she obtains, rather it is the artistic utterance of her soul. Through writings such as ‘Whisper Epiphany’, and now “Passion Speaks”, Nita idealizes the context in which the art stains her life. She says,
Poetry is my whisper
breathed through uncensored lips
and oft times my shout
about the other one's eclipse
It's my own dance of words
and rendition of word play
and with each poem exhaled
my soul sings that day
As a poet and orator, Nita has eloquently delivered sassy messages of hope, love, and laughter, with a little bit of spice, through her poetic interpretations for special events, ceremonies, and programs nation-wide. Nita has played an instrumental role in establishing the spoken word culture on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and has started her latest venture as the Transformational Motivational Poet, providing poetry on demand.
When she is not speaking through poetry, by day Nita can be found in courtrooms serving as a lawyer or sitting on the bench as a Family Master Judge. She obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi, Oxford. She is the co-owner of Chase Chase & Associates, PLLC Law Firm. For over 20 years Nita has served her church, Victory International Christian Center (VICC) as a key leader. When she’s not serving through the VICC, Nita is serving with her illustrious sisters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
In all that she does there is one common thread amongst the chord, passion.
