My wife and I have been involved in marriage preparation for engaged couples and in marriage enrichment for over 12 years. When we discovered "Fighting For Your Marriage" we knew that we had found a gold mine. This is a book that every married couple should have. Every couple should keep it handy to refer to frequently. "Fighting For Your Marriage" is based on sound research. It provides communications techniques that are proven. We have used it as the required text for our marriage enrichment programs and not one single couple who purchased the book has said that they regret the purchase. In fact, every couple has commented on how easy the book is to read and how thoroughly practical and helpful it is. We all get married desiring a lifelong partnership in which we feel happy and secure. However, when two distinct personalities are joined together in marriage, it is hardly surprising that even in the strongest of relationships there are times when we don't feel happy or secure. There are always areas of our relationship that we need to work on. This book responds to these needs. "Fighting For Your Marriage" seeks to reinforce a understanding of "couple identity" and to ensure that we do not neglect the vitally important aspect of friendship in our marriage. Using the techniques provided in this book to talk about difficult issues without fighting insures that the intimate friendship relationship between spouses will not erode due to poorly handled conflict. I recently had the opportunity to participate in a small group using this text as a marriage counseling tool. My participation was out of professional curiosity, but I must say the experience was healthy for everyone in the group...even me who wasn't there to shore up a faltering relationship. I heartily recommend it for use by anyone looking for answers and solutions in their relationship. As with my introduction to the work, attest to its usefulness as a group study tool. Seperate groups for husbands and wives may work better and encourage the appropriate levels of participation in the discussions that will inevitably result. Those just looking for a well written guide to relationship maintenence will also find this text valuable. I guess you may have noticed my high regard for this book. Let me just say that I travel frequently and often encounter people troubled with the stresses of separation. This book has been an invaluable tool to help me encourage them through their struggles. As a matter of fact, I came here to check the price as I prepare to recommend it to several folks on the road with me today. Happy trails.

A real go getter of a book. Lots of things to meditate on. It isn't something to just speed read! Getting to root problems in any relationship can be understood in another book titled 'why singles are not married & the married are single' Another excellent writing with deep insights and gender reconcilliation.

This book gives common sence ideas for communicating and relating to your spouse in a productive, healthy way. Our marriage is definately enhanced because of what we have learned and applied in our relationship. The communication skills learned in this book can be used in all facets of life.

There is great material in this book but too much of it. I got bogged down and had to force myself forward in reading it. Any marriage can benefit from this book. The book does teach us to be better listeners and communicators and there are tools available for how we handle our disagreements. I thought some of the humor was good but some friends didn't like it. We all have our own sense of humor. Stan Cronin's book 'How to Date Your Wife' is another book that has similar concepts but its half the length and a much easier read. Forgiving and staying the course, or I prefer to call it enduring to the end are principles I agree with and they are contained herein. Everyone can improve their marriage by reading these two books.

This book was required reading when my husband and I went to marriage counselling a few years ago. The PREP method outlined in the book literally saved our marriage. I would highly recommend this book to every couple, happy or otherwise. We have shared our copy with friends, and consider it an invaluable wedding gift. We know now that whatever trials we face (and there have been huge ones already), we can get through them, together.

Its emphasis on restoring the friendship in your marriage is right on! This book is inspiring and offers hope.
