Though Madeleine Lambert’s narration isn’t as conversational or intimate as the first-person viewpoint requires, she brings Maggie's interactions with Clay to life, making their sarcastic jibes and emotional bond real and gripping. Lambert’s early awkwardness with some of the secondary characters fades as the story progresses, providing listeners a fully realized story of heartbreak and redemptive love that is deeply engaging.
