Sohma felt trapped, married to a narcissist, and marred by her broken past. She needed change but battling long-standing, pervasive patterns ingrained since childhood would prove challenging. In a wake of deception and greed, she was left homeless and penniless, yet this would become the turning point of her transformation.

Her dysfunctional upbringing was fueled by an abusive, alcoholic stepfather and a mother battling her own demons with drugs. Sohma and her little sister learned to mimic their mother's codependent tendencies, while their brothers acquired the chemical addictions prevalent in the home. Just after turning 17, Sohma and her little sister were told to find another place to live. Resentment and heartache reigned. Devastating ramifications would spread like wildfire to all involved.

As an adult, Sohma gravitated to similar unhealthy relationships. She also faced mounting hardships like death of loved ones, crippling physical pain, her own cancer diagnosis, and much more. But each time, she got back on her feet.
