Another great romantic suspense by Megan Mitcham! I stayed up half the night to finish it because I could not wait to find out how it all played out. Nathan and Madelyn's relationship progresses at a steady pace as they get to know each other. Neither one was prepared to find love, especially in the middle of a murder investigation, but it fit into the story nicely. The suspense element was written extremely well and kept me guessing as to who it could be. The description of the crimes committed may be a bit gruesome for some, so be warned. Madelyn's dog Deacon has such a great personality that he almost seemed human. Great start to a new series, looking forward to next book due out this fall. 4.5 stars ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
The "suspense" part of the romantic suspense novel For All to See was well done--by interspersing a few creepy chapters from the killer's POV among the Madelyn and Nathan chapters, the tension was kept taut. His crimes were horrific enough, but seeing inside his head? *shuddering at the memory* It's definitely not obvious who the killer is for much of the book, which ratchets up the tension nicely as well. The "romantic" element is also well done--watching two people who didn't believe love would ever be a part of their lives finally give in to the inevitable was delicious. Both Madelyn and Nathan have dark areas in their past that have driven them to the lives they've chosen for themselves today--leaving readers hoping from the very first chapters that they'll be able to pull off their own HEA at last. My only complaint--if you can even call it that--is that the suspense plot is resolved a bit abruptly. I wouldn't have wanted it drawn out too long, given what's going on at the time, but it was over so fast it was almost anticlimactic. Really, though, it's not much of an issue--I definitely wouldn't have wanted a different ending there :) We're introduced to future series characters toward the end, and the synopsis for book two ( Painted Walls , with Nathan's cousin as the heroine) definitely has my interest--already added to the TBR! Madelyn Garrett moved to the island of Tortola for the peaceful and tranquil life on it and it's not until her best friend goes missing that she discovers that her island paradise may not be much of one. FBI Agent Nathan Brewer has been on the hunt for a serial killer with the moniker, “the Field-Dresser” for three years (even though most believed he had already been captured) and it appears that the hunt may be at an end when bodies matching the M.O of the killer surface on the island of Tortola, which is also within the territory he had predicted the killer would strike next. What Nathan does not expect is the instant attraction he has to Madelyn but he would go to any lengths to protect her from a vicious killer who has her in his sights and is playing deadly game of cat and mouse with them. Okay, I so did not see this coming! For All to See is the kind of book that will have you clutching the pillows and hiding under the covers even as you read because you can't resist finding out who the killer is! The villainous character is a very deranged and sick one and the murders are so gory and chilling that for a minute, I had to check to be sure that this book was not classified as horror. Thankfully, the romance between Madelyn and Nathan more that balances out the mayhem in the story. Madelyn and Nathan are kindred spirits, each with a painful past which they overcame but not without scars. Madelyn is very independent and always roots for the underdog and Nathan is very much a protector, which is something she needs due to her need to always charge in and help without regard for her own safety. I loved their relationship and the fact that even though he was protective of her, he also was aware of her strengths and utilized them. Ms. Mitcham has written a gripping story that will keep the reader on the edge of the seat and also keep the brain actively trying to figure out whodunit. An absolutely great read!
