Overview

Forever Doon by Carey Corp, Lorie Langdon

With the Witch of Doon on the throne, Jamie believed dead, and Duncan and Mackenna trapped in Alloway, Veronica has no choice but to put her grief aside and prepare her remaining followers for the impending battle against the false queen and her forces. But while on a covert mission to steal a powerful elixir from the castle, Veronica discovers her true love may actually be alive, and fighting a battle of his own.

With the Brig o' Doon destroyed and the portal fragmented, Doon’s forces are not only divided, but also isolated in different dimensions. With the help of a storyteller as ancient as the witch herself, Kenna and Duncan learn they must rebuild the bridge to have any chance of crossing back into Doon with their ragtag army. But when Mackenna insists on fighting as well, Duncan soon realizes the only way he can ensure her safety is to turn her into a cold-hearted killer.

For Vee, Jamie, Kenna, and Duncan, saving their kingdom while keeping their lives intact will take a miracle.

Forever Doon is the fourth book in the Doon series by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon. As such, I don’t suggest reading this review until after you have read the previous books in the series because it contains spoilers. The zombie fungus is back, and it is worse than ever. Half the Doonians get stuck in the modern world, including Kenna and Duncan; Jamie has reportedly been executed by the witch, who has taken over the castle; and Vee and her followers are gathering an army deep in the forest. Heartache and chaos abound. Forever Doon is a wonderful conclusion to the Doon series. It ties all of the loose ends together in a spectacularly beautiful ending. At the end of book three or the beginning of this one, Jamie was executed, but something went wrong and he survived, unbeknownst to his friends. It was difficult to see Vee and Jamie suffer the way they did because of this, but their ultimately sweet reunion was worth it. I loved seeing both couples grow closer through all of their troubles, for they were better for it. Vee and Kenna also grew closer in a way one would not expect but that worked splendidly to the benefit of the novel. The ending was absolutely beautiful! There were a couple of thing that did not make sense. Mainly, the callings from all over the world and the calling between Vee and Kenna. Those were miracles that had never happened before in the story world. They benefited the plot, but the calling between Veen and Kenna especially seemed as though it could have been a cop-out of the authors instead of finding a better to their solution. It was a cool idea, but it seemed almost forced. Overall, I enjoyed Forever Doon as a great conclusion to the series. I would recommend the series (reading them in order, of course) to readers of YA romantic fantasy. I received this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

It's hard for me to believe this is the final book in this series. I really hope that Carey & Lorie will still write about the Doon world as I'm really not ready t say good bye to all the characters in the books. This latest installment was full of adventure, mystery, the power of believing, magic and lots of surprises. Veronica, McKenna and their guys face a lot of obstacles including dealing with their own stubbornness and fears but soon realize that they have a choice how to react to their situations. The girls may not know much about being in a war but they are smart and find ways to prove they are more than capable of dealing with Addie and her minions. I laughed at McKenna's humor, felt for her trying to deal with Duncan's moodiness and she's an awesome best friend to Veronica. I've come to love these four as well as Fergus, Fiona and several others. Doonians and Destined face nearly impossible odds in the fight against Addie but they're so strong together and are able to show what the power of good with believing can do. I had troubles putting this book down and there's so many feelings towards this last book. It was such a pleasure to read this series and I highly recommend it. Farewell Doon, hopefully just for a little while!

I originally requested a copy of this book to review it and see if it might be something my 10 year-old niece Ella would enjoy. Somehow I ended up with two copies of the book, so I gave her one to read right away. It took her a few weeks before she picked up the book, but when she did, it was so much more than she expected. I received this text from her mother: Ella said, "I finished Forever Doom last night, and I feel like a part of my life is missing." That pretty much says it all. Technically Forever Doon isn’t exquisite, but it tells a good story and it – obviously – captures its audience. This is a YA book, and my niece is at the young end of the YA spectrum. She so loved this book that she’s already asked for the other three books – immediately. I don’t know that much else matters. These authors did exactly what they set out to do – they gained a faithful fan forever. (FYI - this is the only Doon book Ella's ever read, but she's already decided that if she was stranded on a deserted island, she'd want a Doon book with her.) *I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

FOREVER DOON is the fourth book in the series, and the only one of the series I have read. I think it would be helpful if I'd read the other books first, as there were a lot of things I didn't understand. It was a very strange book, and as I said, hard to understand at first, but once I got into it, it was very very good. I would have grasped things better if I had read the other books first, maybe, but even as it was it was very funny and very romantic in some places. It was a really good book. I want to get the other three in the series.

When I finished Forever Doon I texted my husband, "I finished Doon. I feel like I just lost my kingdom." So, yeah. I'm pretty much in love with this series. I'm suffering from sever book death now. (Book Death is a little know condition that refers to when you finish the last book of a series you completely adore.) This story is... Breathtaking? Heart wrenching? Thought provoking? Funny? Intense? Swoony? Powerful? Checky, check, check. From the desperation in the beginning to the epic final battle to the bittersweet last page, you won't want to put down this spell-binding story. Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon weave in key details that continue throughout the series, and while the ending was perfect, it was written with losses, questions, and choices. And in my opinion, that is the mark of a mature writer, or in this case, writers. I held my breath, rejoiced, cried, and loved right along with Vee and Kenna! And I loved being able to read from Duncan and Jamie's perspectives, too! You don't want to miss the stunning conclusion of the equally stunning Doon Series. Five Stars! If you haven't read the previous books, you may be a little lost if you read the last book. Normally it doesn't matter to me if you read a series out of order. Confession - I do it all the time. But seriously, why wouldn't you want to read the first three books? GO GET THEM! READ THEM ALL! I received a copy of Forever Doon by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon published by Blink from BookLook Bloggers in exchange for my honest opinion, which I have given.
