Freedom!

As those of you familiar with me are aware I have done 46 years of my lifetime in a prison cell. As of this writing I am still sitting in a prison cell. I came in at the age of 22 back in 1979. (To know what crime I did you just have to read my first book called 'Life with Parole'). Prison existence seems to be my path through this life on earth. I try to keep my head up and my heart strong as I just put one foot in front of the other. I have yet to let go completely of hope that I might live long enough to be free.

Meanwhile, I want to contribute something to life and to others and because my own situation is so limiting I have made it occupational to attempt to put my voice outside of the walls I live behind. I have knowledge of only one thing in this world. That is prison. Nevertheless, from that place there are so many stories worthy of someone writing them down and sharing them. There is every profession and every walk of life represented among the prisoners in our country. I am entertaining the idea that it may be interesting if someone wrote a series of books celebrating the positive time of life for people now serving time. I spent hours and hours letting 'Easy' tell me his story. He and his faithful dog, Willie, traveled together for years on the the open road. They actually drove Tina Turner's personal tour bus at one time. This is a simple humanizing attempt so perhaps some people who have previously bought the idea that prisoners have no value will acknowledge that often a prisoner is actually a neighbor who needs a little help catching up to what other people seem to have learned as children when it comes to how they interact with other people..
