About the Author

Dean started reading seriously in the second grade due to a competition and has spent most of the subsequent three decades lost in other people's worlds. After reading several local libraries more or less dry of sci-fi and fantasy, he started spending more time wandering around worlds of his own creation to avoid the boredom of the 'real' world.

Things worsened, or improved depending on your point of view, when he first started experimenting with writing while finishing up his accounting degree. These days Dean has a wonderful wife and two lovely daughters to keep him rather more grounded, but the idea of bringing others along with him as he meets interesting new people in universes nobody else has ever seen tends to drag him back to his computer on a fairly regular basis.

Authors like Dean Murray are the reason to get a Nook or a Kindle. Great books that you can't find in your local bookstore. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves the fantasy genre. I've read countless fantasy novels and this one is just as good if not better than any fantasy novel you'll find on the shelves. Excellent work Mr. Murray.

This is a great story about the coming of age, intimidating bullies, puppy love, heart pounding adventure, fierce battles, perseverance, and amazing physical and mental victories. You have to enter a new world of community, family, and individual survival in a hostile unforgiving environment where a primitive governing council strives to protect and provide for sometimes undeserving villagers. The search for and the schooling of the next generation of guardians takes on some interesting emotions that draws you into cheering for the underdog that sometimes you're not sure you should trust with your admiration. A great read that might even produce an unexpected tear or two. I can't wait for the next installment of the adventure.

I just finished this book last night on my nook.  I am a huge fan of The Wheel of Time's series and I saw an advert that said if you like the Wot Books that this one would be a good one to read.  For .99 cents I figured I would give it a whirl.  It was a great read.  The characters are great, the story is interesting and by the end of the first novel I really cared about Vad'el and Jain.  I finished it last night at 11:30 and promptly purchased Thawed Prospects for my nook and dug in.  Loving the series.  Thank you Dean for giving me something to fill the whole that WoT has left now that the series is finished.  Keep up the good work.
