Give Me Chocolate Kelly Clark Mystery by Annie Hansen is the first book in the series which I look forward to reading more of. It is a delicious mixture of mystery, romance, family, and a fun fast interesting read. Kelly has returned home to Geneva IL trying to put her past horror behind her but when her past and try to make a new start. Things were getting better but then her past comes back to bite her and her world gets turned upside down again. Is she really in danger again or is the crazed Gina just crazy? Who is she being warned against and is the warning really necessary. Did the beloved Fran who works in her sister Nikki's Chocolate Lover store die of natural causes or was she killed? Who can she trust and what is going on with her sister Adelle and her husband? Will Kelly be able to find these answers and move on from her past and fear? Will she be able to pursue a relationship with and old beau Jack or is he someone to avoid? Can Kelly let her guard down and feel whole and normal again or just when she does will the true danger begin? You will have to read it to find out I won't give it away. This book started to me off a little slow but sometimes that happens in a first book when you have to set the characters up and the plot. After a few pages though you find yourself enthralled and wanting to know more and find out what is happening. It is a fast read but one that once you get into it you won't want to put it down till all your questions are answered and you find out who, what and why things are happening again and is Kelly in danger. Give Me Chocolate is written where you can just picture being right in the middle of the bakery at Chocolate Love with all that is going on and feel right at home. The family dynamics add to this book because we all know how families can get but when the chips are down we band together. The story is believable and has some good twists. I enjoyed the book and if you like a good fast cozy that has love, romance, family oriented, and a puzzle or two then you will enjoy this book. The only thing is you might have to push through the first few pages to get to the interesting part just don't give up I don't think you will be disappointed. I received this book from the Author for my honest opinion and review.

This is the first book in the Kelly Clark mystery series and I must say that I am thrilled to have discovered it. I won the second book recently, but being a bit OCD about reading a series in order made me have to buy the first book so I could start with it. I am so glad that I did. This book did an excellent job of developing the characters and helping you to really get to know Kelly and her sisters. It also did a great job of weaving the mystery throughout in a manner that seemed unconnected to the sisters and yet, put them squarely in the middle of it. It was interesting that the mysteries, yep more than one thing happening here, were layered in a manner that left you wondering if they were connected or not as they could have been or might not have anything to do with one another. I'm quite excited to read the book I won now and am sure that will lead me to have to buy the next one that comes out! I mean what can be better, an author who lives in a chocolate shop that is embroiled in a murder mystery just brings all the best things together!

What could be better than chocolate and a mystery all rolled into an enjoyable new series. I am happy I got a chance to read this debut book by this author. The writing style was very nice and made and just flew through the book. I thought the characters were enjoyable and real. It was neat how the author included a lot of local areas in the book. It gave me a real sense of the city. There is also a bit of romance in this story which for me adds to the story. I liked how she kept me in suspense of who did it until the end. I will be looking foward to the book in this series.

Give Me Chocolate is the first book in Annie Hansen's Kelly Clark Mystery series. In this book she sets the stage and gives the reader a lot of background into the characters and the dessert shop. The dessert shop, Chocolate Love is run by Kelly's sister Nikki. Nikki and her husband Bob took over the family business when Bob's parents retired. Kelly moved back home after divorcing her psycho of a husband and lives in the apartment above the shop. Kelly and Nikki have another sister Adelle who is married with 3 children. Although Kelly trips over a dead body in the kitchen of the shop one morning on her way out for a run, it is later revealed that the individual died due to a heart attack. Due to the cause of death, it is ruled death by natural causes. So, you may ask, where is the mystery ? If I tell you now, it will kill the story (No pun intended). I will say that you want to read it to get to the last few chapters. That is where the story takes a drastic turn and brings everything together. The fun thing about Give Me Chocolate is that the "cozy" portion of it being a "cozy mystery" is given more attention. As I said, the reader is given a chance to get to know the characters and develop a bond with them. You will actually feel like you live right next door to Chocolate Love and are a part of Geneva, not someone just passing through. I cannot wait to dig into the second book in this series, Bean In Love. I have a strong feeling that this is going to one series that I hope has a lot of books in it. So many possibilities and directions Hansen can take......

Reviewed by Paul Johnson for Readers' Favorite In Give Me Chocolate by Annie Hansen, author Kelly Clark’s life is in pieces. She leaves California and returns to her hometown of Geneva, Illinois. Here she hopes to rebuild her life after a bad divorce from an abusive, homicidal husband. With limited income, she accepts her sister’s generous offer to live in the apartment above Chocolate Love, her sister’s specialty dessert shop located in the Historic District of Geneva. At first she has a hard time adjusting, but her daily runs and writing keep her going even on her worst days. Things slowly start to get better when she reconnects with an old high school sweetheart who has also recently returned to Geneva. Then things take a turn for the worse when she literally stumbles over a dead body. The death is ruled from natural causes, but to Kelly something just doesn’t seem right. A former friend from her past life in California suddenly arrives in town with a dire warning. Has Kelly’s violent past and the danger she faced in California followed her back to her old hometown?  This is a fast read and captures the reader’s attention from the very first chapter. The author did an excellent job of creating characters that are intriguing but real. The dialogue is realistic, particularly between siblings, and the descriptions were dramatic. The content of the story was concise and coherent. The organization of the story is well developed. The plot is well constructed and moves along at a good pace. I would classify this as a drama with some mystery thrown in. A nice enjoyable read.
