Soon to be a Netflix original film.

Ten seemingly random people in Los Angeles just found $100,000 sitting on their porches. No one knows where the money came from or why. When seasoned TV news reporter Kate Bradley starts asking questions, this feel-good story becomes a mystery. How far will Kate go to identify the generous soul known as “Good Sam,” who doesn’t seem to want to be found?

With all the imposters, red herrings, and even an attraction to one of her “suspects,” Kate finds herself questioning everyone’s motives—those of strangers, her family, and even her own. The most dangerous thing Kate can do is lower her guard and let herself believe. But “Good Sam” has started something in the world: change. And Kate won’t just find the story of a lifetime, she might live it, too.

Revised edition: This edition of Good Sam includes editorial revisions.

About the Author

Like her heroine Kate Bradley, award-winning author Dete Meserve keeps looking for people who are doing extraordinary good for others, sometimes at great personal sacrifice. Instead of tracking a killer or kidnapper, Dete’s mysteries seek to uncover the helpers, the rescuers, and the people who inspire us with selfless acts of kindness. Good Sam is the first in her Kate Bradley Mysteries series, followed by A Perfectly Good Crime. When she’s not writing, Dete is a film and television producer and a partner in Wind Dancer Films. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and three children—and a very good cat that rules them all. I have to admit, I rarely finish a whole book, but I did this one in one sitting! The sense of immediacy was great. There were scenes of personal risk in rescues that made me cry every time. I enjoyed the whole TV news atmosphere It was a very satisfying finish, and I hope to see the movie.

A Great Summer Read! I truly enjoyed every moment of this book. The author has a real knack for description without slowing down the pace, her characters a real and well drawn, and I loved the romance and element of mystery.  Los Angeles and the tv news business were also front and center which added a fun layer. If you want a well written, feel good book to toss in your beach bag, this is it!

Good Sam: Dete Meserve's debut novel has is all: While first intrigued by the story behind the story, I was delighted with the depth and pacing of this novel, which is focused on good rather than evil. Good Sam is an intriguing mystery filled with enough twists and turns to keep the reader turning pages into the wee hours of the morning. I stopping reading only when my eyes refused to remain focused. Kate Bradley, Meserve’s savvy, driven local TV news reporter is compellingly real, facing real life issues. The author is obviously well-grounded in the world in which her characters live. Good Sam gives the reader an insider’s perspective of what goes on behind the scenes of TV news and the ways the media can influence our thoughts and feelings about the world around us. However, since the world we live in is not all good, Meserve gives a slice of betrayal to spice up the story and keep us guessing. But wait, it’s not all mystery, Meserve also delivers romance with plenty of heart.

fullsizeoutput_3601Lindas Book Obsession Review of “Good Sam” by Dete Meserve, Melrose Hill Publishing, April 1, 2014 Dete Meserve, Author of “Good Sam” has written a riveting, captivating, intense, engaging, suspenseful, and enjoyable novel. The Genres for “Good Sam” are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, Mystery, Suspense, with a touch of Romance. The timeline for the story is in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events in the story. The author describes her intriguing cast of characters as complex and complicated. Kate Bradley is a Los Angeles reporter and journalist, and works on journalist stories such as disasters. It is quite a surprise when Kate is given a case when someone is leaving $100,000 in cash in a bag with the number “8” on it. There seems to be no strings, and no clues as to the Good Samaritan doing this. Kate and others refer to this person giving these gifts as “Good Sam”. Some of the people who are the recipients are very needy of this, and there are a few that are very wealthy. As Kate and her crew searches for clues and facts, it becomes very apparent that “Good Sam” does indeed know Kate. Soon Kate is getting personal letters from someone who is claiming to be “Good Sam”, and wants to meet with her in person. Is everything what it seems to be, and does everyone seem to be who they say they are? There are twists and turns, and ups and downs in this story. This was a wonderful page-turner, and I read this in one sitting. I highly recommend this novel to readers who enjoy an exciting and unpredictable novel.

Kate has worked all kinds of tragedies throughout the years working for an LA tv station. A good Samaritan has given out 10 different families 100,000 dollars. Kate starts investigating who the Good Sam is. A person comes forward but Kate doesn't believe the person who comes forward is truthful so Kate keeps investigating. This was a fun, exciting story with lots of secrets. Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Good Sam is the story of what happens when you report a story that leads to something more than you can ever imagine! After covering stories like disasters and tragedy, Kate Bradley knows that the good in news is hard to find. When 10 people start to received bags with money in them, Kate is assigned to the story to find who is this elusive Good Sam. When Kate gets into a accident that lands her in the presence of a firefighter named Eric Hayes who is dealing with losing his brother in a tragic boating accident and with a ex named Jack who is up to no good, nothing will go right for Kate. When Jack tells Kate he is the Good Sam, Kate doesn't know if she can trust him or not. With things not adding up with Jack's story and having Eric around telling his story of what happened that night his brother died. Things start clicking for Kate for who the money was giving to and who the real Good Sam is. It ends with two people finding each other during a near-tragedy and how a story of someone being a Good Sam can lead people to their one true happiness! I just loved this story and what the one true message is throughout! I have to be honest, I read the second book in this little series (Perfectly Good Crime) first but now that I read this book, everything makes sense now about how Kate and Eric meet and why they are together. This book will get you to thinking about how just giving money to ten families will make a big change in their and your life. It was cool to think because in the story, they had copy-caters trying to replicate what this one person did, now wouldn't that be cool in real life if someone really did that!! Thank You to Dete Meserve for getting me to thinking about how it takes just one good act to change a person's life for the better!! I received this book from the Author in exchange for a honest review.
