About the Author

Kathleen retired from public education after working for 34 years on Eastern Long Island, N.Y. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Geneseo College, Masters in Reading from Dowling College, Administrative degree from NYU and a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Dowling College. Initially she worked as a Special Education Teacher, then a Reading Specialist and lastly as an Elementary Principal. She always promoted the importance of reading and encouraged her students to share their stories!

She grew up listening to her dad's stories of life in Ireland and his journey to America with his suitcase. As she grew older, she realized the degree of courage her dad had at such a young age to make this journey.

She has been happily married to her husband, Skip, for 37 years. Together they raised two children, Meghan and Connor in East Setauket, NY. This is her first children's book and is a tribute to her dad's journey as well a symbol to his grandchildren that hard work and sacrifice can make your dreams come true.
