God gave girls grit and grace. From the very beginning, God looked to girls and women to teach, to lead, to love, to change the world.
We know because we can read their stories in the Bible. From Eve to Mary and everyone in between, the Bible is full of gritty and graceful women who faced tough circumstances with courage, toughness, intelligence, and faith.

This is a wonderful book about fifteen women in the bible. Although most people talk about the men of the bible, there are also several strong women that did great things for God. I have to admit that I only can think of a couple women from the bible, but there were so many more. I had never heard of Deborah and how she led an army or Mary and Martha who loved Jesus in their own ways. Each story has a wonderful illustration and the name and what the woman did. It also has a quote for their story in the bible. This is a beautifully illustrated story for any child but especially girls. It has a great message and would be a great addition to any child’s book shelves. I even learned something from it and think the message of God doing great things for them and them doing great things for God is timeless. What an engaging way to help encourage any child to look into the bible and God. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
Stories of Fifteen Strong Women of the Bible for Girls The Bible is filled with stories of strong women from Eve to Mary and Mary Magdalene. The stories are told simply, but with enough detail to allow girls to understand how each woman did great things for God. I loved that refrain. “God did great things for me, and I did great things for God.” It ties the stories together and makes the repeated point of how these women worked for God. The illustrations are rich and beautiful. They give the child a detailed picture to follow when the book is being read aloud. This is an excellent book to read in a Sunday school class. It is also perfect for a mother to read to her daughter and discuss what it is to be “gritty and graceful.” Older children will be able to read the book for themselves. It’s a good introduction to the biblical world of these women. I received this book from PR by the Book for this review.
The Bible is full of adventurous and exciting stories for boys, but what about girls? Author Caryn Rivadeneira picks out fifteen women from the Bible, each with an exciting tale of her own to tell, and illustrator Sonya Abby Soekarno pictures one event from each story with pleasingly bright simplicity, and nicely non-white heroines. I love the faces, the clothes, the expressions… and I love the simply told stories, each offered in a pleasing first-person voice, making this a delightful book to share with young children. The writing is as simple and graceful as the images. Bible verses, offered in clear readable print, tie each story to scripture, and each tale ends with a simple reminder that God does great things for and through his women. Prophet, queen, widow or frightened teenager, each of these fifteen women experiences God’s guidance and strength. The fruit is eaten, the Savior is born, and the gardener proves to be much more. Gritty and Graceful is a beautiful collection of tales that provide an overview of the whole of Scripture, all from the points of view of women. It’s a beautiful book for girls… but really for anyone—non-reader, early reader, elder sibling or adult teacher—who wants to see the truth through different eyes. Disclosure: I was given a copy and I love it!
